His most famous songs are inclusive of "Syyspihlajan alla", "Liljankukka" ("Lily Flower"), "Hiljaa soivat balalaikat" and "Satumaa" ("Fairyland"). Henry Theel was born on November 14, 1917, to a Finnish-Swedish family in Helsinki, but spent his youth in Oulu. The paternal side of his family can be traced back to Belgium. In the beginning singing was only a hobby for Theel, but then in 1942 he made his first recording session featuring the song "Syyspihlajan alla". [4] In the year of 1945, Theel began to perform songs of Toivo Kärki and he had already in 1950 made over two-hundred-fifty recordings. Between 1946-1952 Theel and Kärki toured Finland and at the same time Theel's interpretation and overall performance of "Punainen mylly" became very successful. Theel continued to make recordings in the 1950s, however he was forced to take a longer break when his vocal cords were damaged. This injury prevented him from singing for some time altogether.

Theel returned with his recordings in the early 1960s. The greatest successes of Theel became "Sellanen ol 'Viipuri", "Syysillan Tuuli", "Tangokavaljeeri" and "Rattaanpyörä". After this Theel made some recordings with Humppa-Veikkot. Theel continued recording until his death, and by that time he had made over five-hundred individual recordings. Theel had sung in Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Spanish. Notable songs that Theel sang in Swedish are as follows: "Kan du vissla Johanna?" ("Can you whistle Johanna?"), "Vintergatan" ("Milky Way") and "Min älskling" ("My darling"). [5]

Theel died at the age of seventy-two on December 19, 1989, in Helsinki, Uusimaa, Finland. Theel is buried beside his wife, Svea Dorothea Ahlberg (March 17, 1913 - August 25, 1970), within the Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki, Finland. [6]

Carola Standertskjöld Musical artist

Carola Christina Standertskjöld-Liemola, professionally known as Carola, was a Finnish jazz and pop singer. Her style was partially inspired by American singers of the 1950s. Simultaneously, it was in the spirit of the modal jazz scene going down in Europe in the 1960s. Mostly, Carola's jazz repertoire consisted in idiosyncratic versions of American songs in English, while her most famous jazz track "The Flame" was an original composition by Esa Pethman and the lyrics by the singer herself. As the vocalist for Esa Pethman's quartet and Hazy Osterwald's sextet in the early 1960s, Carola made fame in Finland and Sweden, and toured Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Switzerland. Her most significant recording is a session with the Heikki Sarmanto Trio from 1966, which the Finnish Music Information Centre considers among the original blueprints of Finnish jazz. Carola's recordings have been credited for the accosting tone of her contralto voice and her phrasing. The singer also co-produced the groovy approach of her supporting orchestras. In late 1960s and early 1970s, she performed in nine languages and a wide variety of styles, including chanson, schlager, Latin, rock'n'roll, and soul. After her death of Alzheimer's disease in 1997, Carola's music was revived in 2004 with two Best of albums and Carola & Heikki Sarmanto Trio reaching the Finnish charts.
