Heritage Radio Network is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit covering the world of food, drink and agriculture. The member-supported radio station has more than one million monthly listeners in over 200 countries. [1]

History

In 2009, largely inspired by Carlo Petrini and his pirate radio station in Italy, Radio Bra Onde Rosse, Patrick Martins founded the Heritage Radio Network in the back of Roberta's in Bushwick, Brooklyn. [2] The radio studio was built using two re-purposed twenty-foot shipping containers. [3] [4]

Since its inception, Heritage Radio Network has broadcast more than 4,000 shows and produced more than 30 regular weekly programs about such topics as food technology, beer, cheese, food history and politics, and cocktails. [1] Shows feature guests ranging from chefs, food policy analysts, farmers, restaurateurs, musicians and artists. [5] Previous guests have included Alice Waters, Michael Pollan, Joan Dye Gussow, Éric Ripert, Florence Fabricant, Marion Nestle, Danny Meyer, [6] Jamie Oliver, [7] Anthony Bourdain [8] and more. Snacky Tunes

Hosted by Greg and Darin Bresnitz, a pair of twins with long-running connections to the worlds of hospitality and music, Snacky Tunes is a talk show that pairs interviews with chefs and musicians. Most episodes include live musical performances interspersed with the musicians' interviews. [43]

Awards and accolades

In February 2013, Heritage Radio Network was named one of Saveur 100 Favorite things of 2013. [5] Heritage Radio Network is the recipient of a grant from The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and Culinary Arts. [1]

Anthony Michael Bourdain was an American celebrity chef, author, and travel documentarian who starred in programs focusing on the exploration of international culture, cuisine, and the human condition. Bourdain was a 1978 graduate of The Culinary Institute of America and a veteran of many professional kitchens during his career, which included several years spent as an executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles in Manhattan. He first became known for his bestselling book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly (2000).

El Bulli was a restaurant near the town of Roses, Catalonia, Spain, run by chef Ferran Adrià and driven by the culinary ideas of Albert Adrià. The restaurant overlooked Cala Montjoi, a bay on Catalonia's Costa Brava. It held three Michelin stars and was described in UK newspaper The Guardian as "the most imaginative generator of haute cuisine on the planet". The restaurant was also associated with molecular gastronomy.

A Cook's Tour is a travel and food show that aired on Food Network. Host Anthony Bourdain visits various countries and cities worldwide where hosts treat him to local culture and cuisine.

José Ramón Andrés Puerta is a Spanish chef, and founder of World Central Kitchen (WCK), a non-profit devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. A Spanish-born and raised cook, he is often credited with bringing the small plates dining concept to America. He owns restaurants in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami Beach, Orlando, Chicago, and New York City.

David Chang is an American restaurateur, author, podcaster, and television personality. He is the founder of the Momofuku restaurant group. In 2009, Momofuku Ko was awarded two Michelin stars, which the restaurant has retained each year since. He co-founded the influential food magazine Lucky Peach in 2011 which lasted for 25 quarterly volumes into 2017. In 2018, Chang created, produced, and starred in a Netflix original series called Ugly Delicious, and through his Majordomo Media group, he has produced and/or starred in more television and podcasts. "The Food Wife" is the fifth episode of the twenty-third season of the American animated television series The Simpsons. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on November 13, 2011, and was seen by around 7.5 million people during this broadcast. In the episode, Homer feels left out when Marge, Bart, and Lisa join a group of foodies. Their personal blog quickly becomes popular and the trio is invited to a molecular gastronomy restaurant. Feeling pity toward Homer, Marge invites him along. However, after beginning to worry that he will reclaim his position as the parent perceived as the most fun by the children, she sends him to the wrong address. Homer unknowingly arrives at a meth lab, where a gunfight starts as the police burst in.

<i>Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown</i> American television series

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown is an American travel and food show on CNN which premiered on April 14, 2013. In the show, Anthony Bourdain travels the world uncovering lesser-known places and exploring their cultures and cuisine. The show won twelve Primetime Emmy Awards out of 31 nominations, as well as a 2013 Peabody Award. The digital series Explore Parts Unknown, an editorial partnership with Roads & Kingdoms, won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Series. Parts Unknown aired the last collection of episodes on CNN in the autumn of 2018. The series finale, titled "Lower East Side" — bringing Bourdain's culinary travelogue full circle back to Bourdain's hometown of New York — aired November 11, 2018.

<i>99% Invisible</i> Radio program and podcast on design

99% Invisible is a radio show and podcast produced and created by Roman Mars that focuses on design. It began as a collaborative project between San Francisco public radio station KALW and the American Institute of Architects in San Francisco. The show has been distributed by PRX for broadcasting on a number of radio stations and as a podcast on the Radiotopia network. On April 28, 2021, Roman Mars announced in an introduction of a re-released episode that 99% Invisible had been purchased by Sirius XM and marketed as part of its Stitcher Radio brand.

<i>Song Exploder</i> Music podcast

Song Exploder is a music podcast created by Hrishikesh Hirway, who hosted it from its 2014 inception until late 2018 and again from December 2019 onwards. In January 2019, Thao Nguyen became a guest host for the year, with Christian Koons serving as producer, and Hirway moving to executive producer. The biweekly show features musicians talking about the creative process behind an individual song while "deconstructing" the song into its component parts.
