The 2011 Hialeah mayoral election was held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, in Hialeah, Florida. Acting Mayor Carlos Hernandez, who became mayor in 2011 when is predecessor, Julio Robaina, left office in May 2011 to pursue an unsuccessful bid for Mayor of Miami-Dade County, sought a full term. Four candidates contested the election. [1] The election was officially nonpartisan.

Hialeah is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. With the population of 239,673 at the 2018 United States Census, Hialeah is the sixth-largest city in Florida. It is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to an estimated 6,012,331 people at the 2015 census. It is located west-northwest of Miami, and is the only place in the county, other than Homestead, Florida, to have its own street grid numbered separately from the rest of the county.

Julio Robaina was the mayor of Hialeah, Florida. He was first elected in 2005. Robaina was re-elected to a second term in office in 2009.

The elections coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices, including a gubernatorial election. The party primaries were held on August 28, 2018. The state congressional delegation changed from a 16–11 Republican majority to a slim 14–13 Republican majority, one short from a Democratic flip. This is the most seats Democrats have had in Florida since 1982.

2014 North Miami mayoral election

The 2014 North Miami mayoral election took place on November 4, 2014, to elect the mayor of North Miami, Florida. The election was officially nonpartisan. The election was held after the arrest of Mayor Lucie Tonderou earlier in 2014. Smith Joseph was elected after a runoff election between him and former mayor Kevin Burns. The first round was held on August 26, 2014.
