Ed Oakley is a municipal politician from Dallas, Texas. He served on the city council from 2001 to 2007, and was a candidate for Mayor of Dallas in the runoff election held on June 16, 2007. If he had won, he would have been the first openly gay mayor of a top ten U.S. city.

On May 6, 2017, the city of San Antonio, Texas held an election to choose the next mayor of San Antonio. As no candidate secured a majority of the vote, a runoff was held on June 10, 2017 with Councilman Ron Nirenberg defeating incumbent mayor Ivy Taylor.

If no candidate takes a majority of over 50% of the total vote, the two top vote-earners will advance to a runoff election on June 8. Incumbent mayor Mike Rawlings is unable to run for reelection due to term limits. Dallas will also be concurrently electing all 14 members of its city council, and 3 of the 9 total members of the Dallas Independent School District.
