Hillary Kipsang Yego (born 2 April 1992) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the steeplechase. He has a personal best of 8:03.57 minutes for the event. He was the gold medallist at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics.
He began training alongside Edwin Soi and made his breakthrough in the 2009 season. After finishing second to Peter Lagat in the 2000 metres steeplechase at the national youth trials he was chosen for the 2009 World Youth Championships in Athletics. There he beat his Kenyan rival in the final stretch of the race, winning the gold medal in a time of 5:25.33 minutes in spite of his poor hurdling technique. [1] Yego attempted to gain qualification for the senior event at the Kenyan World trials 3000 metres steeplechase race, but finished in ninth place. A third-place finish at the national junior trials the following year meant he missed a berth for the steeplechase at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics. [2] He ran on the European circuit for the first time that year and set a best of 8:19.50 minutes for third at the KBC Night of Athletics. [3]
Yego had his first season as a senior athlete in 2011 and he performed on the major IAAF circuits. He set a meet record at the Colorful Daegu Championships Meeting in May then gained his first top three placing at an IAAF Diamond League race in Shanghai with a personal best of 8:07.71 minutes. He was runner-up at the Golden Spike Ostrava meet and won at the Hanžeković Memorial, but was out of the top three at other Diamond League races. [2] He ranked eighth in the world in the steeplechase that year. [4] He experimented with road running events, running 1:02:26 for the half marathon in 2011 and 2:19:21 hours for the marathon in 2012, but his skills were better suited to the steeplechase. He failed to make the 2012 Olympic team at the Kenyan Trials and did not make the top three at any 2012 IAAF Diamond League meet. [2] [3]
Yego returned his focus to just the steeplechase in 2013. He was third in Shanghai with a personal best of 8:03.57 minutes and was victorious at the IAAF World Challenge Beijing with a meet record. [5] He was third at the Bislett Games but again missed out on the major championship after an eleventh-place finish at the Kenyan World Trials. [2] Yego had his first major victory at the DN Galan in August 2013. He won the race ahead of the best steeplechasers of his generation: Paul Kipsiele Koech, Brimin Kiprop Kipruto, Ezekiel Kemboi and Conseslus Kipruto. [6] [7]
He became eligible to compete internationally for Turkey in February 2020. As is common with Turkish transfers, he changed his name, becoming known as Hilal Yego. [8]

Brimin Kipruto is a Kenyan professional middle distance runner who specialises in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was born in Korkitony, Keiyo District. He holds a personal best of 7:53.64 minutes which is the second fastest time ever run, and the African Record. His personal best is only 0.01 of a second behind the world record of former county mate Saif Saaeed Shaheen, who switched national affiliation to Qatar after growing up as Stephen Cherono in the Keiyo District.
Paul Kipsiele Koech is a Kenyan runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He won the 2004 Olympic bronze medal in this event. His personal best of 7:54.31 minutes is the third fastest of all time.
Richard Kipkemboi Mateelong is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metre steeplechase. He won an Olympic bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and he has two World Championship medals in the discipline.
Michael Kipkorir Kipyego is a Kenyan runner who competes in marathon races. He was initially a specialist in the 3000 metres steeplechase and was the 2002 World Junior Champion in the event. He represented Kenya in the steeplechase at the World Championships in 2003 and was runner-up at the 2008 African Championships. He set a personal best of 8:08.48 hours in 2009.
Sylvia Jebiwott Kibet is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner. She was the silver medallist in the 5000 metres at the World Championships in Athletics in both 2009 and 2011. She also won medals over the distance at the 2006 African Championships in Athletics, the 2007 All-Africa Games and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Mark Kosgey Kiptoo is a Kenyan long-distance runner who set the world record in the marathon for the Masters age group by running 2:07:50 in the 2018 Frankfurt Marathon. He also specialized in the 5000 metres throughout his career. He is a two-time gold medalist in the event at the Military World Games and won bronze medals over the distance at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2010 African Championships in Athletics. He has also represented Kenya at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and the All-Africa Games.
Conseslus Kipruto is a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was the 2016 Rio Olympic champion in the event. At the World Athletics Championships, Kipruto won gold medals in 2017 and 2019, silver medals in 2013 and 2015, and a bronze in 2022. In 2018, he captured gold medals at the African Championships and Commonwealth Games. He is a four-time Diamond League winner.
Japhet Kipyegon Korir is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in cross country running competitions and the 5000 metres. He was the gold medallist at the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, becoming the youngest ever world cross country champion. He has a personal best of 13:11.44 minutes for the 5000 m track event.

Virginia Nyambura Nganga is a Kenyan runner who specialises in the steeplechase. She was the gold medallist in the steeplechase at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and won her first senior medal at the 2015 IAAF World Relays, where she was a member of the Kenyan team which broke the African record for the distance medley relay. He has a personal best of 8:11.98 minutes for the steeplechase, set in 2005. He represented Kenya at the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and shared in the team gold medals.
Hyvin Kiyeng Jepkemoi is a Kenyan steeplechase runner. She won gold at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics and 2011 All-Africa Games, and bronze at the 2017 World Championships and 2012 African Championships in Athletics.
