Hisami Kuroiwa is a Japanese-American film producer.
Born in Japan, Hisami was educated at Meiji Gakuin University in Tokyo before moving to the United States to pursue her career. She based herself in New York City, where she has now been working in the film industry for over 25 years.
Her first big success came with Smoke in 1995, starring Harvey Keitel and Forest Whitaker. The film won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and introduced director Wayne Wang to the world.
In 1997 she produced Sunday, which starred Jared Harris in his first major role, and went on to take $6 million at the box office despite having a very low budget.
Also in 1997 came the cult success of Bent starring Clive Owen, adapted from the play by Martin Sherman. It won the Award of the Youth at the Cannes Film Festival.
Uncredited, Hisami has provided financing and production support for a host of other well-known directors, including Wong Kar-wai, Jim Jarmusch and Gaspar Noe. Known for widespread connections in Asia (particularly Japan and Hong Kong), Europe and North America, Hisami has been instrumental in the launching of many careers, whilst simultaneously being a major patron of the photographic arts in Japan and the USA.
She has also developed one of K-Michel Parandi's first screenplay, Nature of April.
In addition to her work in the film world, she is on the board of advisors for Kaya, a literary publisher.

Smoke is a 1995 American independent film by Wayne Wang and Paul Auster. The original story was written by Paul Auster, who also wrote the screenplay. The film was produced by Greg Johnson, Peter Newman, Kenzo Horikoshi, and Hisami Kuroiwa. Among others, it features Harvey Keitel, William Hurt, Stockard Channing, Harold Perrineau Jr., Giancarlo Esposito, Ashley Judd, and Forest Whitaker.

Maalaala Mo Kaya, also known as Memories, is a Philippine television drama anthology show broadcast by Kapamilya Channel under ABS-CBN Entertainment. Hosted by Charo Santos-Concio, it premiered on May 15, 1991. It has become the longest-running drama anthology in the Philippines, reaching its 30th year in 2021. The program features weekly real-life stories or anecdotes of common people or even famous celebrities and personalities through letter sending. The series has a counterpart radio program being broadcast on DZMM called "Maalaala Mo Kaya sa DZMM", a paperback ("pocketbooks") adaptation and a comic book adaptation under Mango Comics & Sterling. The program concluded on December 10, 2022 with a total of 30 seasons and 1,344 episodes.

Oniroku Dan was a Japanese author who has been called, "the most celebrated writer of popular SM novels in Japan." Many of his stories have been filmed, most notably by Nikkatsu studio in their Roman Porno series. Dan had a close professional association with actress Naomi Tani throughout her career. He died on May 6th, 2011.

Wake Up, Girls! is an anime series produced by Ordet and Tatsunoko Production and directed by Yutaka Yamamoto. A film titled Wake Up, Girls! – Seven Idols opened in Japan on January 11, 2014, and a television series aired in Japan between January and March 2014. The film was streamed online in 108 countries upon its release. A spin-off series, Wake Up, Girl ZOO!, aired between September 2014 and February 2015. Both the series and film are being streamed with English subtitles by Crunchyroll.
Kaya Press is an independent non-profit publisher of writers of the Asian and Pacific Islander diaspora. Founded in 1994 by the postmodern Korean writer Soo Kyung Kim, Kaya Press is currently housed in the Department of American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California.
