Hit Bahadur Tamang (born 29 May 1963) [2] is a Nepali politician and a member of the House of Representatives of the federal parliament of Nepal. [3] He was elected from Nuwakot-1 constituency representing CPN (Maoist Centre) of the Left Alliance,defeating senior Nepali Congress leader,ex-finance minister Ram Saran Mahat. [4] He was elected by a margin of 8,553 votes,receiving 36,473 votes to Mahat's 27,920. [4] He had been a candidate from Nuwakot in both the constituent assembly elections of 2008 and 2013 but lost to Mahat both times. [4]
Previously,he was the Minister for Youth and Sports in the Khanal cabinet. [4]
Born to a peasant family in Panchakanya (Ward 4),Nuwakot, [2] he began his political career from CPN Unity Center and later joined CPN (Maoist) and rose to become a member of the party's central secretariat. [4] He was active in Unity Center from 1992 to 1996,rising to the posts of district vice-chair and Party central committee member. [2] He joined the maoist party in 1996 and went underground. [2] He had become a central committee member of the party by the time it entered the peace process in 2006. In the interim,parliament reinstated in the aftermath of the 2006 revolution,he was appointed as a member of parliament representing the Maoist party. [2]
He has studied up to Grade 10. [2] He has three children,two daughters and a son. [2]

It was founded in 1994 after breaking away from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unity Centre). The party launched an armed struggle in 1996 against the Nepalese government. In 2006,the party formally joined mainstream politics after signing a peace agreement following the 2006 Nepalese revolution.

Constituent Assembly elections were held in Nepal on 10 April 2008,having been postponed from earlier dates of 7 June 2007 and 22 November 2007. The Constituent Assembly was planned to draft a new constitution and therefore decide,amongst other things,on the issue of federalism. The number of eligible voters was around 17.5 million. The Constituent Assembly was originally set to have a term of two years.

He garnered 20,747 votes to KC's 17,294. After his party united with CPN UML to form Nepal Communist Party (NCP),he became the new party's "co-incharge" for Solukhumbu district.

He joined politics as a student and has remained a prominent communist politician from Siraha District.

General elections were held in Nepal on 20 November 2022 to elect the 275 members of the House of Representatives. There were two ballots in the election;one to elect 165 members from single-member constituencies via FPTP,and the other to elect the remaining 110 members from a single nation-wide constituency via party-list proportional representation.
