Hittman is an American heavy metal band from New York, originally active from 1984 to 1994 and again since 2017.
In September 1984, guitarist Jim Bachi, bassist Mike Buccel, drummer Chuck Kory [1] [2] and vocalist Scott Knight [3] [4] came together from various local New York bands to form Hittman in Huntington on Long Island. [3] After a few months, they parted ways with Knight, who was deemed not good enough for the band. They recruited Dirk Kennedy, who had been involved in the formation of popular thrash metal band Anthrax. [1] [2] A little later, the group added second guitarist Brian Fair to the formation. [1] [2] In June 1985, they produced the demo Metal Sport. With the rehearsed material, they opened shows for Saxon, Poison, Black 'n Blue and Stryper, among others. [2] Fair was let go in 1986 and was replaced by Greg Walls who in turn was replaced by John Kristen later on. [1] [2] Around 1986, a second demo was distributed to a select group of people in the music industry. After that, months passed in conducting ineffective talks with several record labels.
In August 1988, Hittman's self-titled debut album was released on German label Steamhammer, which had picked up in March, although only the song of the same name from the demo Metal Sport made it onto the album. Also included was a cover version of the Johnny Rivers television series tune "Secret Agent Man". For American metal listeners, Hittman's attachment to the label, which was again based only in Germany after a failed overseas expansion, was an obstacle, as they could only access the album via import. In AllMusic's interpretation, this stalled the band's career, which in turn delayed the production of a second album. [1] In contrast, the Encyclopedia of Popular Music argues that internal group tensions delayed the preparation of the second album. Dirk Kennedy explained it with the circumstance that negotiations with American label Polygram Records were initially problematic because of the required takeover of the debut album, which in the meantime had been licensed extremely successfully by Roadracer Records, and that Steamhammer reacted angrily to the poaching attempt, and that because of personnel changes within the responsible Polygram department, this company also dropped out, which is why a stay with Steamhammer was necessary. As a result of the legal trouble around the label affiliation, the band's upward trend faltered and the management dropped them. Production for the band's next release, Precision Killing, a concept album in the vein of Queensrÿche's Operation Mindcrime , was stopped, as the band wanted to avoid constant comparisons to them. With new drummer Mark Jenkins, the album Vivas Machina was instead tackled in November 1991, completed in May 1992, mixed in July, announced for August 1992, and released in the last days of January 1993. As an explanation, Kennedy stated that producer Bob St. John had to handle several jobs at the same time, including the priority production of the Extreme CD III Sides to Every Story. Some of the performances following the release were poorly attended. At a gig in May 1993 together with Skew Siskin and Sargant Fury at the Erlangen E-Werk, which holds about 900 visitors, only about 40 people were present. Meanwhile, the band had already written the first songs for a third album, which again had a heavier touch. A tour was still pulled off, but due to sagging sales at a high financial cost the band broke up in 1994. [1]
In 2004, Kennedy recorded the solo album Life Is Now. [5] In 2007, there were plans for a revival of Hittman, which were to culminate in a performance at the twelfth Keep It True festival. [6] The performance was canceled due to a family bereavement that was not described in detail. [7] On November 11, 2013, Mike Buccell was killed in an accident. [8]
The band reissued their self-titled debut album via No Remorse Records in October 2017, which included a remixed and remastered version of their original 1985 demo album. [9] They have since reunited and played their first comeback concert in April 2018 at Blackthorn 51 in Elmhurst, New York. [9] The band released a new studio album, Destroy All Humans, in September 2020. [10]
Battleaxe are an English heavy metal band from Sunderland. As one of the bands of the new wave of British heavy metal scene, they started out with the name Warrior and morphed into Battleaxe in early 1981. The band consisted of Dave King (vocals), Brian Smith (bass), Steve Hardy (guitar), and Ian Thompson (drums). After playing around the area and honing their craft, they entered the recording studio to make a demo called "Burn This Town". In doing so, they garnered the attention of Roadrunner Records, and the result was their first album, Burn This Town.
Vardis are an English three-piece hard rock, boogie rock and heavy metal band from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, who enjoyed hits between 1978 and 1986, and reformed in 2014.
Sodom is a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, formed in 1981. They have gone through many lineup changes, leaving bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper as the only constant member. The band is currently composed of Angelripper, guitarists Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik and Yorck Segatz, and drummer Toni Merkel. Along with Kreator, Destruction and Tankard, Sodom has been referred to as one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal. Sodom heavily influenced the German black metal scene. In addition, the band is regarded as a pioneer of early death metal. Mike McPadden wrote that the most Venom-blackened of German "Three Kings", Sodom further merged thrash and death metal into a "wicked and decadent sound".
Tankard is a German thrash metal band from Frankfurt, founded in 1982. Alongside Kreator, Destruction and Sodom, Tankard is often considered one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal. Stylistically, Tankard have consistently played thrash metal that thematically centres primarily on alcohol reverence, unlike the remaining "Big Teutonic Four", who are all known for covering such topics related to death, politics, violence and anti-fascism.

Hirax is an American thrash metal band from Cypress, California. Starting in 1984 under the leadership of vocalist Katon W. De Pena, the band played in Los Angeles and San Francisco with several of their thrash metal peers such as Metallica, Exodus, and Slayer. The band was an early example of thrash metal, speed metal and crossover thrash, yet inspired by cross-genre influences including blues vocalist Sam Cooke, who De Pena once cited as "the greatest vocalist [De Pena] has ever heard."

Armoured Angel were an Australian thrash and death metal band from Canberra, which formed in 1982 as Metal Asylum. The band's founding mainstay, Glen "Lucy" Luck provided bass guitar. They pushed the musical boundaries of the local thrash metal scene and were pioneers of Australian death metal. The group also helped establish Australia's metal festival, Metal for the Brain in 1991. They issued a studio album, Angel of the Sixth Order, in July 1999 before disbanding soon after.
Elegy are a Dutch power metal band, founded in 1986 in Eindhoven. Their music is characterized by the fusion of power and progressive metal, which made them the pioneers of the 'progressive power metal' subgenre. The band was plagued by a continuing changing roster, which counts in the current line-up only one founding member. Elegy have currently suspended any recording or live activity.

Calling the Wild is the seventh solo album by German hard rock singer Doro Pesch. It was released in 2000, in two different editions for the European market and the American one. For this release, Doro changed labels again, having signed contracts with SPV/Steamhammer for Germany and with Koch Records for the USA. Calling the Wild was the first album published in the US after the eponymous one in 1990. The US edition contains also remixed tracks taken from the previous Doro album Love Me in Black. "Love Me Forever" is a cover of Motörhead's song from the album 1916 of 1991. "White Wedding" is a cover of Billy Idol's hit single of 1982.

Ulysses is a German progressive rock band from the early 1990s with an international line-up. They were part of a colourful scene of new bands, labels and magazines that emerged in Germany at that time. Musically, they were less influenced by the German "Krautrock" phenomenon but initially oriented strongly towards the second generation of British progressive rock bands. Hegarty & Halliwell would have classified them as part of third wave of progressive rock bands, who can also be described as a second generation of neo-progressive bands. So one might not wonder that most reviewers heard similarities to Marillion, Galahad and Änglagård in their music which is characterised by a strong emphasis on melodies and the integration of folkloristic elements, abrupt changes of moods and partly complex and ever changing arrangements often moving towards a climax.
