Luxembourg, also known as Luxembourg City, is the capital city of Luxembourg and the country's most populous commune. Standing at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers in southern Luxembourg, the city lies at the heart of Western Europe, situated 213 km (132 mi) by road from Brussels and 209 km (130 mi) from Cologne. The city contains Luxembourg Castle, established by the Franks in the Early Middle Ages, around which a settlement developed.
The District of Luxembourg was one of three districts of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It contained four cantons, divided into 44 communes:

- Luxembourg
- Mersch
Junglinster is a commune in central Luxembourg, which draws its name from its principal town, Junglinster. It is one of six communes in the Luxembourg canton of Grevenmacher. The 18th-century St Martin's church is a national monument.

Mertert has a river port on the Moselle, the largest in Luxembourg. The commune's administrative centre is Wasserbillig.
Dippach is a commune and small town in south-western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Capellen, which is part of the district of Luxembourg. The commune's administrative centre is Schouweiler. The River Mess, a tributary of the Alzette, rises here.
Kayl is a commune and town in south-western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette.
Pétange is a commune and town in south-western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette and is the fifth-most populous commune in Luxembourg, as well as the most populous without town status. Pétange lies at the borders with both Belgium and France.
Contern is a commune and town in southern Luxembourg. It is located east of Luxembourg City. As of 2024 the commune has a population of 4513 whereas the town itself, which lies in the south-west of the commune, has a population of 1,876.
Eischen is the largest town in the commune of Habscht in south-western Luxembourg, and its administrative centre. As of 2023, the town has a population of 2,206.
Greisch is a village in the commune of Habscht, in western Luxembourg. As of 2023, the village had a population of 223.
Ahmed El Aouad is a retired French-Moroccan footballer. An attacking midfielder, El Aouad played for most of his career in Luxembourg, for CS Hobscheid, CS Grevenmacher, F91 Dudelange, and CS Fola Esch.
FC Alliance Äischdall Hobscheid-Eischen is an association football club based in Hobscheid, in western Luxembourg.
The 2017 Luxembourg communal elections were held on 8 October to elect the communal councils of the 102 municipalities of Luxembourg.
