Holstein Kiel (women) is a women's association football club from Kiel, Germany. It is part of the Holstein Kiel club.
Holstein Kiel was founded in 2004 after the dissolution of the Regionalliga club SV-TUS Felde, in addition to a collaboration with TSV Schilksee. In their inaugural season in 2004–05, they emerged as champions of the Regionalliga Nord, [1] earning promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. In the meantime, their player Nina Jokuschies became a World Cup champion with the Germany U19 team in the 2004 tournament. [2]
The club competed in the 2. Bundesliga until 2011, followed by experiencing a series of promotions and relegations until 2016, when they returned to the Regionalliga Nord. [3] [4] In 2018, there were plans to incorporate the women's football department into VfB Kiel for the 2018–19 season for financial reasons. [5] However, these plans were withdrawn and an agreement was reached to continue working with KSV Holstein. [6]

A Regionalliga is a regional league in numerous sports governing bodies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, usually located in the upper tier of the sports leagues.
KSV Hessen Kassel is a semi-professional German football club based in Kassel, Hesse. KSV competes in the German Regionalliga Südwest, the fourth tier of German football. Nicknamed "Die Löwen", the club was founded as FC Union 93 Kassel in 1893. A series of mergers, insolvency and re-starts led to the club known today being re-formed on 3 February 1998. The club's colours are red and white and their home ground since 1953 has been the Auestadion, located in the southwest of the city of Kassel next to the historic Karlsaue park.
Kieler Sportvereinigung Holstein von 1900 e.V., commonly known as Holstein Kiel or KSV Holstein, is a German association football and sports club based in the city of Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein. From the 1900s through the 1960s, the club was one of the most dominant sides in northern Germany. Some notable honors from that period include the German football championship in 1912, and being vice-champions 1910 and 1930. Holstein also won six regional titles and finished as runners-up another nine times. They remained a first-division side until the formation of the Bundesliga in 1963. They will make their debut in the Bundesliga in the 2024–25 season after gaining promotion from the 2. Bundesliga in 2024.

The Frauen-Regionalliga is the third tier of German women's association football. The Frauen-Regionalliga is made up of five separate leagues. Until 2017, the champion of each league was promoted to the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga for the next season, so were the winners of two promotion groups in 2018. From 2021 to 2024, the Regionalliga Süd champion and two winners of promotion play-offs have qualified for next season's 2. Bundesliga. All five league champions will earn promotion in 2025, with the play-offs expected to return in 2026.

The 2012–13 Regionalliga was the fifth season of the Regionalliga as the fourth tier of the German football league system. From this season onwards, the structure of this tier has changed. The three division format administrated by the German FA has been replaced by five leagues, each of which is administrated by its respective regional FA. Additionally, the leagues will be structured on geographical affiliation, in contrast to the partially arbitrary divisional alignment. League champions will qualify for a promotion play-off. Additionally, the Regionalliga Südwest runners-up will qualify.
