Mark Ezekiel Maglasang (born June 13, 1995), also known mononymously as Honcho (formerly Bosx1ne), is a Filipino rapper, singer and songwriter. He founded the Filipino hip-hop group Ex Battalion in 2012, [2] whose collective gained nationwide prominence with hits such as "Hayaan Mo Sila" and "No Games", the only trap tracks that charted the Top 10 of the now-defunct Billboard PH Top 20.
Bosx1ne founded Ex Battalion who gained nationwide fame in 2018 after the release of "Hayaan Mo Sila", he changed his screen name to Honcho in mid-2020. [3]
In April 2021, Honcho announced a lenten special EP entitled "Rosario", which he would be releasing on YouTube on a one-track-a-day arrangement from April 1 to 4, starting with the first song entitled "Ulap" featuring Jekkpot, Brando, and MC Einstein, and finally ending with the titular song itself. [4]
In August 2022, Honcho apparently was "kicked out" of Ex Battalion after an alleged altercation with Skusta Clee, according to a cryptic post by the latter indicating Honcho has left the group and has since released solo work on his record label DeeFyre Records. [5] [6]
In August 2022, Ex Battalion released a track titled "Chismis" with lyrics referencing Honcho, the group's founder, being ousted. [7] On the track, Flow G's verse took a jab at Honcho's signature ad-lib. Honcho's ad-lib can be mostly heard at the intro of Ex Battalion's tracks prior to the beef between the members and the founder.
In the same month, Ex Battalion member Skusta Clee posted a photo of the main members without their founder with the caption "kumpleto walang kulang" (lit. '"the group is still complete"') indicating that Honcho has left the group. [7] Since then, the group and the founder were caught in an exchange of diss tracks.
In October 2022, Ex Battalion released the "We The Best" music video on YouTube. It is the second track from the group without the founder. It is also the first track released under the acronym EXB on the group's YouTube channel. [8] While the track is directed at the group's skeptics, an ad-lib similar to Honcho's can be heard on King Badger's verse, which was preceded by Badger's lines "Yeah, meron whip lahat ay sa'kin, 'Di sa nakaw 'yan nanggaling" (lit. '"Yeah, there's a whip, it's all mine, it was not stolen"'). [9] The line references to a report in August 2022 that Honcho was allegedly ousted due to an altercation about the transparency in their earnings. [7] The music video has garnered 37 million views to date.
In December 2022, Ex Battalion released the "IDOL" music video on YouTube. [10] The music video, directed by Titus Cee, is set in a university-like theme featuring the group members in their casual outfits. While the track is mostly a love song, the music video featured several instances of the group's achievements reported by the media posted on the Ex Battalion University Bulletin Board, including posters that say "Farewell Bosx", which points out Honcho's former stage name Bosx1ne. The music video has garnered 4 million views to date.
On January 1, 2024, Ex Battalion member Yuridope released a diss track titled "Brrt Pow!" featuring groupmates Flow G and Emcee Rhenn on YouTube. [11] On the same day, Honcho responded with "Kaya Pala" (lit. '"I can"'), released under DeeFyre Records, with lyrics indicating that he can go solo without the group. [12]
On March 7, 2024, Ex Battalion members Skusta Clee and Flow G released the Trifecta (EP). Deserve, one of the EP's tracks, is a subliminal response to the group's founder with Clee's verse saying "Sa sobra mong hapdi, tinataboy ka ng 'yong squad" (lit. '"Because of how you act, your squad is pushing you away"'). [13] The track's music video has 4 million views to date.
On May 6, 2024, Ronnie Villa released "Apas" featuring Honcho and Kali Hoods. [14] On the track, Honcho's verse is mostly written in Bisaya, with the lines "Niabot ko sa taas pero ganahan sa ubos" (lit. '"I reached the top but liked the bottom "') which references his past affiliation with the group which has seen mainstream success.
On August 26, 2024, H Beat released "Go" featuring Honcho. [15] On the track, Honcho directly slams the group with the lines "Nakita mo naman kung pa'no ko pinalaki (sila)" (lit. '"You saw how I raised (them)"') which references how he majorly contributed to the group members to go mainstream.
