Hong Junyang (born Ang Junyang; 17 August 1981) is a Singaporean singer, songwriter, record producer and businessman.

Early life

Hong studied at Saint Andrew's Junior College and National University of Singapore. [1]

Career

He was a contestant on Project SuperStar 2005 , organized by MediaCorp, and was runner-up of the male category in the finals. After the competition, he signed a recording contract with Universal Music. He has also hosted television programmes such as SuperFunkies and Campus SuperStar .

His debut album Du Jiao Shou (独角兽) was released on 26 May 2006.

At one point, Hong relocated to Taipei, Taiwan to pursue his career as a freelance music producer and songwriter. [2] [3]

Business ventures

Hong used to own an Indian banana leaf rice restaurant Bananabro. [4]

He co-owns The Original Boat Noodle, a Thai street food restaurant chain, with two other partners. [5]

He also owns a café-cloud kitchen Caf (short for Clickafood) and is a investor of bubble tea outlet Machi Machi. [4] [6]

In July 2023, Hong opened a Korean food stall named Oppa Kitchen at the coffeeshop co-owned by Chew Chor Meng, Dennis Chew and Maureen Ow (Miss Tam Chiak). [7]

Personal life

Hong and Candyce Toh met on The Project SuperStar in 2005 and married in 2009. Their first daughter, Azalea, was born in April 2016. On 12 August 2022, they welcomed another daughter named Alessia. [8]

Hong and his family reside in a resale condominium in the northeastern part of Singapore. [9]

Herman Kwan Hoi-San was a Hong Kong actor. His English name was Herman Kwan. Kwan started off as a Cantonese opera actor in street theatre before joining New Voice Opera Troupe (新聲劇團). He also started singing for early Hong Kong film soundtracks and moved on to act in films, mostly adaption of opera in Cantonese. He became famous and acted in many lead roles. When Hong Kong films started to move towards Mandarin, Kwan's career faltered and joined TVB and acted in various roles. Directors and filmmakers rediscovered his talent and cast him in many supporting roles in films. In 2001, Kwan suffered a stroke and was left mute and paralysed. He died in 2006.

<i>Its a Great, Great World</i> 2011 Singaporean film

It's a Great, Great World is a Singapore film directed by Kelvin Tong. It is set in the Great World Amusement Park and was released in Singapore cinemas on 27 January 2011. The film features an ensemble cast of local singers, established MediaCorp artistes, a number of celebrities from Hong Kong and Taiwan and getai group "Babes in the City".
