Horacena E. Tate (born May 8,1956) [1] [2] is an American politician who currently serves in the Georgia State Senate,representing the 38th District in Fulton County.
Tate was born in Griffin,Georgia,but raised in Atlanta. In 1977,she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia. A Master's degree in Educational Administration followed from Atlanta University in 1988. She received a Ph.D. in 1992 from Clark-Atlanta University,also in Educational Administration. [3]
Tate was first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1998. She currently serves on the following committees: [1]

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Inc. (ΑΚΑ) is the first intercollegiate historically African American sorority. The sorority was founded on January 15,1908,at the historically black Howard University in Washington,D.C.,by a group of sixteen students led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. Forming a sorority broke barriers for African-American women in areas where they had little power or authority due to a lack of opportunities for minorities and women in the early 20th century. Alpha Kappa Alpha was incorporated on January 29,1913.

Margaret Davis Bowen was a religious leader,civil rights activist and educator who led the Gilbert Academy,a top private black college in New Orleans,during the late 1930s. She received her M. Ed. from the University of Cincinnati in 1935. From 1936 to 1939 she served as international president of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority,which has a Margaret Davis Bowen Outstanding Alumni Award for the Southeast Region. In 1948 she resigned from Gilbert and moved to Atlanta where she was active in the Methodist church.
Jheanelle Wilkins is an activist and American politician. A Democrat,Wilkins serves as a delegate to the Maryland General Assembly representing Maryland's District 20,the first Black woman ever elected in this district. In 2020,she was appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve as the Parliamentarian of the House of Delegates. She also serves as Chair of Election Law in the House Ways and Means Committee and as the Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland since 2022.
