The Horizon League is a 12-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region.
The Valparaiso Crusaders is the former name of the athletic teams from Valparaiso University, often referred to as Valpo, in Valparaiso, Indiana, United States. The season was the first to have a uniform start date for both southern and northern teams. The change from previous seasons, in which weather allowed southern teams to begin play weeks before northern teams, was an attempt to improve parity between warm-weather and cold-weather teams. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament and 2008 College World Series. The College World Series, which consisted of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament, was held in its annual location of Omaha, Nebraska at Rosenblatt Stadium. It concluded on June 25, 2008, with the final game of the best of three championship series. Fresno State defeated Georgia two games to one to claim their first championship. Fresno State was the first team seeded fourth in its regional tournament to win a national championship since the NCAA Tournament adopted the current 64-team format in 1999.

The College World Series, which consisted of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA Tournament, was held in its annual location of Omaha, Nebraska. The Butler Bulldogs men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of Butler University, an NCAA Division I member school located in Indianapolis, IN. The 2019 Horizon League Baseball Tournament was held from May 22–25. All six of the league's teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at the home field of the regular season champion. The winner of the tournament, UIC, earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.
The 2011 Horizon League Baseball Tournament took place from May 22–26, near the close of the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball season. The top six of the league's seven teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at Wright State's Nischwitz Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. Top seeded Wright State won their fourth Horizon League Championship and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.
