House Vs. Hurricane were an Australian post-hardcore band from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, formed in 2006. The band released their debut studio album, Perspectives in March 2010. The band's second studio album, Crooked Teeth was released in July 2012 and peaked at number 20 in the ARIA Charts. [1]
The band formed in the suburb of Bayswater in Eastern Melbourne, Victoria and were initially named Beyond Mine, aiming to meld their differing musical influences (post-hardcore acts such as Alexisonfire, Thrice, Saves the Day, Chiodos, alternative rock band Circa Survive, avant-garde such as Björk, and hardcore in the vein of As Cities Burn. House vs. Hurricane gained national attention when they won the 2008 Battle of the Bands competition which featured 144 bands from all over Australia. [3] They subsequently recorded and released their first extended play (EP) entitled Forfeiture through El Shaddai Records. A music video was made for its title track, directed by Ryan Chamley and shot in the decommissioned Old Geelong Gaol. [4]
House Vs. Hurricane embarked on their first major tour in May 2008 supporting metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada on their Australian tour.[ citation needed ]
In mid-2008 drummer Liam Disher was kicked out,[ citation needed ] and bassist Adam Meyers also left after the Severed Ties tour with The Amity Affliction. In February 2009 Drew Allen and Sam Osborne joined the band as the new bassist and drummer, respectively.
House Vs. Hurricane announced via their MySpace page that they were currently writing new material for their upcoming full-length studio album, which was planned to be recorded by the end of 2009 [5] and flew to United States in November 2009 to record their debut album with producer Brian McTernan. [6] They spent six weeks recording at McTernan's Salad Days studio in Baltimore.
Two months after joining House Vs. Hurricane bass player Drew Allen decided to leave the band. He was replaced by Dylan Stark of the band A Fallen Theory. As seen in the "Salad Days Studio Diaries" series (posted on YouTube), the band continuously calls him "Dildo", as well as hazing him frequently. Drummer Sam Osbourne also commented that Stark is very quiet.
In January, House Vs. Hurricane signed with Australia's Shock Records and released their debut studio album, Perspectives , on 5 March 2010.
In January 2011, the band posted Joey Fragione and Chris Dicker had left the band. [7] [8]
In December 2011, it was announced that Mclerie would become a permanent member of the band Antiskeptic, however, Mclerie would still remain a full member of House Vs. Hurricane. Speaking on his addition to Antiskeptic, vocalist Andrew Kitchen stated that, "we wouldn't even think of asking them (Mclerie and new bassist Tavis Wardlaw) to break off from either of their homes so to speak... I told Ryan that it was much much less of a commitment than House Vs Hurricane. We're not looking at getting back to the days of fifty gigs in a year, we're just looking at bringing it back to maybe ten or fifteen depending on what opportunities come up." [9]
In July 2012, the band's second studio album Crooked Teeth was released. The album peaked at number 20 on the ARIA Charts. At the AIR Awards of 2012, the album was nominated for Best Independent Hard Rock or Punk Album. [10]
On 11 June 2013, House vs. Hurricane announced that they were breaking up, and played their last show on 1 December 2013 in Adelaide.[ citation needed ]
On 16 July 2014, it was announced that House vs. Hurricane would be reuniting for a show at the BANG! club in their hometown of Melbourne, taking place on 30 August 2014. [11] This was followed by other events throughout 2014. [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] [22] [23] [24]
House vs. Hurricane performed at the Unify Festival in Gippsland in January 2017. It was their first performance in over two years. [25] [26]
On 8 January 2017, the band released "Give It Up", their first new song in almost five years. In June 2017, the band released their third studio album, Filth.

Karnivool is an Australian progressive metal band formed in Perth in 1997. The group currently consists of Ian Kenny on vocals, Drew Goddard and Mark Hosking on guitar, Jon Stockman on bass, and Steve Judd on drums. Faker are an Australian alternative rock band, formed in 1996 by mainstay Nathan Hudson on lead vocals, piano and guitar. Make Them Suffer is an Australian metalcore band from Perth, formed in 2008. They are currently signed to SharpTone Records. Their debut studio album, Neverbloom, peaked at No. 56 on the ARIA Album charts in June 2012, and showcased the band's earlier mix of metalcore, blackened death metal, and symphonic metal. Its follow-up Old Souls debuted at No. 30 upon release in May 2015 and displayed the band beginning to transition from death/black metal to a more progressive metalcore sound. After the band signed with Rise Records, the label released an expanded version of Old Souls in August 2016, containing also an EP from their death metal era Lord of Woe and a new track, "Ether". Despite the name, the band is not named after the Cannibal Corpse song of the same name.

Dead Letter Circus was an Australian alternative rock band from Brisbane, Queensland. Their 2010 debut album This Is the Warning debuted at No. 2 on the Australian album charts and spawned a number of singles that were played heavily on radio, and was later certified Gold and voted by listeners into Triple J's Hottest 100 Albums of All Time, at number 86. The band's third studio album, Aesthesis, was released on 14 August 2015.
The Amity Affliction is an Australian post-hardcore band from Gympie, Queensland, formed in 2003. The band's current line-up consists of Ahren Stringer, Joel Birch, Dan Brown (guitar) and Joe Longobardi (drums). The Amity Affliction has released eight studio albums including Severed Ties (2008), Youngbloods (2010), Chasing Ghosts (2012), Let the Ocean Take Me (2014), This Could Be Heartbreak (2016), Misery (2018) and Everyone Loves You... Once You Leave Them (2020). They are known for their highly personal songs, often dealing with depression, anxiety, death, substance abuse, and suicide, many lyrics stemming from vocalist Joel Birch's past struggles. The Amity Affliction released their latest album, Not Without My Ghosts, on 12 May 2023.
Confession are an Australian metalcore band from Melbourne. The band was formed in 2008 by frontman Michael Crafter, who is best known as the former lead vocalist of metalcore bands I Killed the Prom Queen, Carpathian and Bury Your Dead. They have released one EP titled Can't Live, Can't Breathe and three albums: Cancer, The Long Way Home and Life and Death.
Art vs. Science are an Australian electronic dance band based in Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in February 2008, the three-piece consists of James Finn on vocals and keyboards; Daniel McNamee on vocals, guitars and keyboards; and Daniel Williams on drums and vocals.
El Shaddai Records is an independent record label founded in late 2006 and based in Melbourne, Australia. Shortly after the label began they announced that they had signed post-hardcore band House Vs. Hurricane and rock/hardcore band Forgiven Rival, publishing numerous releases for both groups. In late 2009 El Shaddai Records continued on to sign deals with Antiskeptic, and US groups A Plea for Purging, and This Runs Through for the Australian releases of the bands' recordings. 2010 saw the Australian release of He Is Legend's It Hates You and To Speak of Wolves' Following Voices. In 2011 El Shaddai Records released the Blessed By A Broken Heart single Forever off their album Feel The Power which was released on the label 24 January 2012.
Cloud Control were an Australian alternative rock band, originating from the Blue Mountains near Sydney, Australia. Northlane are an Australian heavy metal band from Sydney, formed in 2009. The band comprises guitarists Jon Deiley and Josh Smith, drummer Nic Pettersen and vocalist Marcus Bridge.
