On 14 October 2020, replacing the old ICF coaches, Howrah – Rajendra Nagar –Express got new German LHB rakes. Modern LHB coach are more comfortable and at the same time faster than the conventional ICF coaches. The new coaches, based on a German technology Linke Hoffman Busch, are made of stainless steel which do not turn turtle during accidents; the light-weight coaches will improve the train's speed. 9:20 pm.Rajendra nagar Terminal at 6:25 am.I will take halt on Patna junction And Danapur.Bigger windows, lamps at all AC seats and sound insulation are the other facilities of this train. Howrah – Rajendra Nagar Express runs with 1 AC 1 tier coach, 2 AC 2 tier coaches,7 AC 3 tier coaches, 6 Sleeper coaches, 5 General coaches along with 2 EOG coaches. Thus, having a total of 22 LHB coach; the normal locomotive of Howrah – Rajendra Nagar – Express is a WAP-7 locomotive of Gomoh/Samastipur shed. The locomotive in-charge for this train is WAP-7 Gomoh/Samastipur Shed. Before that it was hauled by WAP-7 Howrah Shed. Earlier was hauled by a WAP-4 Howrah Shed. The service began running on 16 February 2002 and is one of the fastest train services in India, traversing the 1001-kilometre distance in under 12 hours, which puts it with likes of Patna Rajdhani Express, Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, Agartala Rajdhani Express, Howrah Rajdhani Express. It is faster than the Shramjeevi Superfast Express, Magadh Express and Vikramshila Express and Bhagalpur Garib Rath Express on the same route. This train is also known as "Aam Janta ki Rajdhani" as its fare is less than that of Rajdhani Express but matches it in speed and punctuality. It is quicker than few Premier Rajdhani Express Trains on Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–New Delhi section.

Before this, Hatia-Patna Express was run on 1 April 1964 to go to Patna. In that train, bogies were attached from Dhanbad and passengers from Dhanbad and nearby areas used to reach Gomo first and then Patna. When Patliputra started running in 1972, the problem of going to Gomo was solved.For 8-10 years, Patliputra Express was the only train from Dhanbad to Patna. Later on 29 November 1980, Ganga-Damodar Express was launched from Dhanbad to Patna. A few months after the launch of Ganga-Damodar Express, Pataliputra Express was extended to Ranchi. Then it started running from Hatia to Patna. The train connecting Jharkhand and Bihar is still popular among passengers.
