Hughes Eng, O. Ont, is a community activist in the Chinese community in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [1] [2]
Eng immigrated to Canada from China during the period of the Chinese Exclusion Act, an experience that lead to his role in getting compensation from the Government of Canada. After graduating from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (1959) with a degree in Printing Management, [2] he worked at the University of Toronto Press for 28 years and retired in 1987. [1]
He has been Vice-Chair of the Board of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (1991) [1] [2] and Co-Chair of the National Congress of Chinese Canadians, as well as:
In 2006 Eng was awarded the Order of Ontario for being the founding director of both the National Congress of Chinese and Chinavision (now Fairchild TV) and for providing decades of exemplary community service in Ontario. [3] He is the father of Ben (Toronto Police Service), Margaret, Rose and Robert, grandfather of David, Heather, Elizabeth, Claire and Neil and great-grandfather to Hudson, Claira, Parker, and Callum, distant relative of Susan Eng.

Mário Silva is a Canadian legal scholar and former politician. Silva served as a Canadian Member of Parliament from 2004 to 2011. He began his political career as a Toronto City Councillor from 1994 to 2003. He then moved to federal politics, being elected for the Liberal Party of Canada in the 2004 election in the Toronto riding of Davenport. He served as the Official Opposition Critic for Foreign Affairs (Americas) after having served as Critic for the Treasury Board and Labour. In 2007, the President of the French Republic bestowed him the title of Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honour. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of Portugal. and the Order of Rio Branco from Brazil.
Frank Iacobucci is a former Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1991 until his retirement from the bench in 2004. He was the first Italian-Canadian, allophone judge on the court. Iacobucci was also the first judge on the Supreme Court to have been born, raised and educated in British Columbia. Iacobucci has had a distinguished career in private practice, academia, the civil service and the judiciary.

Robert Goldwin "Bob" Elgie was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1977 to 1985, and was a cabinet minister in the Progressive Conservative governments of Bill Davis and Frank Miller. His father, Goldwin Elgie, was also a Conservative Ontario MPP in the 1930s and 1940s. He was a member of the Ontario Press Council from 2001, serving as chair from 2006 until his death.

Paul Matthew Hoffert, LLD, CM is a recording artist, performer, media music composer, author, academic, and corporate executive. He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Toronto. He later studied music composition with Gordon Delamont. In 1969 the 26-year-old Hoffert co-founded Lighthouse, a rock group that sold millions of records and earned three Juno Awards as one of Canada's leading pop bands. His film music earned him a San Francisco Film Festival and three SOCAN Film Composer of the Year awards, and included films such as: The Proud Rider (1971), The Groundstar Conspiracy (1972), Outrageous! (1977), High-Ballin' (1978), The Shape of Things to Come (1979), Wild Horse Hank (1979), Mr. Patman (1980), Deadly Companion (1981), Paradise (1982), Fanny Hill (1983), Bedroom Eyes (1984) and Mr. Nice Guy (1987).
Anna Marina Terrana was the elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Vancouver East in British Columbia, Canada, serving as that riding's MP from 1993 to 1997 in the Canadian House of Commons - 35th Parliament. Terrana sat as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Anastasios (Tas) Venetsanopoulos was a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Ontario and a Professor Emeritus with the Edward S. Rogers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. In October 2006, Professor Venetsanopoulos joined what was then Ryerson University and served as the Founding Vice-president of Research and Innovation. His portfolio included oversight of the university's international activities, research ethics, Office of Research Services, and Office of Innovation and Commercialization. He retired from that position in 2010, but remained a distinguished advisor to the role. Tas Venetsanopoulos continued to actively supervise his research group at the University of Toronto, and was a highly sought-after consultant throughout his career.
Jean Bessie Lumb,, née Wong (1919–2002) was the first Chinese Canadian woman and the first restaurateur to receive the Order of Canada for her community work. Most notably, she was recognized for her pivotal role in changing Canada’s immigration laws that separated Chinese families and for her contribution in saving Toronto's First Chinatown and Chinatowns in other cities.
Aditya Jha is an Indian-Canadian entrepreneur, philanthropist and social activist. A globetrotter, his business portfolio consists of several startups and company turnarounds with interests in Canada, India, Thailand and Nepal. He also runs several philanthropic initiatives through his Private Charitable Foundation, promoting education and nurturing entrepreneurship to increase opportunities for the less fortunate. Jha takes special interest in nurturing prosperity and financial independence amongst Canadian First Nations (aboriginal) communities and individuals through education scholarships at top Canadian universities and a project that nurtures entrepreneurship. Jha is 2012 inductee to the Order of Canada, Canada's highest civilian award.
Toronto Metropolitan University is a public research university located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The university's core campus is situated within the Garden District, although it also operates facilities elsewhere in Toronto. The Chinese Canadian community in the Greater Toronto Area was first established around 1877, with an initial population of two laundry owners. While the Chinese Canadian population was initially small in size, it dramatically grew beginning in the late 1960s due to changes in immigration law and political issues in Hong Kong. Additional immigration from Southeast Asia in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and related conflicts and a late 20th century wave of Hong Kong immigration led to the further development of Chinese ethnic enclaves in the Greater Toronto Area. The Chinese established many large shopping centres in suburban areas catering to their ethnic group. There are 679,725 Chinese in the Greater Toronto Area as of the 2021 census, second only to New York City for largest Chinese community in North America.
