Hugo Boisvert is a Canadian ice hockey coach and retired center who was a two-time All-American for Ohio State. [1]
Boisvert was the star player for his junior team, the Cornwall Colts. He led the club in scoring twice, averaging more than two points per games both times. He helped the team win back-to-back league championships. Boisvert began attending Ohio State University in 1996 and immediately began to produce offensively. He finished his freshman season at a point per game pace and was named to the conference Rookie Team. The following year, Boisvert led the team in scoring and was named an All-American but the team performed even better. Ohio State reached the CCHA championship game for the first time in 26 years and received their first bid to the NCAA Tournament. [2] The Buckeyes won their first two tournament games and reached the Frozen Four. Boisvert's numbers declined slightly as a junior but he still led the team in scoring by 14 points. He led the team back to the NCAA Tournament but this time they fell in their opening game.
Boisvert left Ohio State after his junior season and played on the Canadian national team for a year. Afterwards, he began his professional career with a rather unimpressive season for the Orlando Solar Bears in the final year of the IHL. He picked up his scoring in the postseason and was able to earn a job with the Grand Rapids Griffins, playing three seasons for the club. In 2004, Boisvert travelled to Europe and began playing in Germany.
In his first year with the Füchse Duisburg, Boisvert rediscovered his scoring touch and helped the team win promotion to the DEL. After helping them stave off relegation the following year, he signed on with the Kassel Huskies, whom had been relegated that year, and performed well for the team. He was named team captain in 2007 and led them to a league championship, securing promotion back to the top level of German ice hockey. Boisvert remained with the club for two more years before moving down to another Bundesliga team, Dresdner Eislöwen. By this time, Boisvert's scoring was declining and though he still played well, he was unable to get a third team promoted to the DEL. He stayed with the club for 5 years before retiring as a player in 2015.
The next season, Boisvert returned to the Huskies as an assistant coach. After three years, he was named the head coach for the Bietigheim Steelers. After finishing as runners-up in the regular season in 2019, the club declined and Boisvert was let go in November the following year. After sitting out the 20-21 season, Boisvert was back behind the bench as an assistant with Rote Teufel Bad Nauheim in 2021.
Boisvert was inducted into the Ohio State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. [3]
Hugo's son Zavier, born 2006, plays junior ice hockey in Germany.

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) is a college athletic conference in the Midwestern United States that participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. The current CCHA began play in the 2021–22 season; a previous incarnation, which the current CCHA recognizes as part of its history, existed from 1971 to 2013. Four of its nine members are located in the state of Michigan, with three in Minnesota and one each in Ohio and South Dakota. It has also had teams located in Alaska, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Nebraska over the course of its existence.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent The Ohio State University, located in Columbus, Ohio. The athletic programs are named after the colloquial term for people from the state of Ohio and after the state tree, the Ohio buckeye. The Buckeyes participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I in all sports and the Big Ten Conference in most sports. The Ohio State women's ice hockey team competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The school colors are scarlet and gray. The university's mascot is Brutus Buckeye. Ronald Herbert Mason was a Canadian ice hockey player, head coach, and university executive. A head coach of various American universities, most notably Michigan State University (MSU), he was the most successful coach in NCAA ice hockey history between 1993 and 2012 with 924 wins, until Jerry York became the new winningest coach with his 925th career win on December 29, 2012. Mason was athletic director at MSU from 2002 to 2008. He then served as senior advisor for the USHL Muskegon Lumberjacks. On December 2, 2013, Mason was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team of the University of Notre Dame, competing at the NCAA Division I level as an associate member of the Big Ten Conference. The Irish play their home games at Compton Family Ice Arena. The head coach of the Fighting Irish is Jeff Jackson, and his assistant coaches are Paul Pooley, Andy Slaggert, and Max Mobley.
John Richard Markell is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional player. Markell played 55 games in the National Hockey League and later coached Ohio State University.
The Bowling Green Falcons ice hockey team is the ice hockey team that represents Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. The school's team competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Falcons last played in the NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament in 2019. The Falcons have won one NCAA Division I championship, coming in 1984, defeating the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in the longest championship game in the tournament's history.
Francis "Buddy" Powers is an American former ice hockey player, coach and scout. He was the head coach for Bowling Green as well as Ice Arena Director for the Slater Family Ice Arena and color commentator for Bowling Green on The Buckeye Cable Sports Network.

The Miami RedHawks men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. The RedHawks are a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), starting play in the conference's 2013–14 inaugural season. Prior to the NCHC, from 1980 to 2013, the RedHawks were a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) until the original CCHA disbanded in 2013. They play in Steve "Coach" Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center.

Penn State Nittany Lions men's ice hockey, formerly known as the Penn State Icers, is a college ice hockey program that represents the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to the 2012–13 season the program was designated a club sport and competed at the ACHA Division I level. PSU was previously a member of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL, although the team competed as an independent ACHA D-I member for the 2011–12 season before moving to the NCAA D-I level. They play at the Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Welsh is a Canadian former ice hockey player, and college ice hockey head coach at Ohio State University. He is a 2008 inductee of the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame as both a player and a builder.
The 1985–86 Michigan State Spartans men's ice hockey team represented Michigan State University in college ice hockey. In its 7th year under head coach Ron Mason the team compiled a 34–9–2 record and reached the NCAA tournament for the eighth time in its history. The Spartans defeated Harvard 6–5 in the championship game at the Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
The 1993–94 Lake Superior State Lakers men's ice hockey team represented the Lake Superior State University in college ice hockey. In its 4th year under head coach Jeff Jackson the team compiled a 31–10–4 record and reached the NCAA tournament for the eighth time. The Lakers defeated Boston University 9–1 to win the championship game at the Saint Paul Civic Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Perry Pooley is a Canadian retired ice hockey forward who was an All-American for Ohio State.

This season marked the ninth season in the Big Ten Conference. They were coached by Steve Rohlik, in his ninth season, and played their home games at Value City Arena.

Blake Pietila is an American college ice hockey goaltender for Michigan Tech. He was named to the All-American team in 2023.
