Hugo Nicolini (born November 15, 1949) is an Argentinian former footballer who played as a defender most notably in the North American Soccer League.
Nicolini played professional football in his native Argentina, and in 1972 played abroad in the National Soccer League with Toronto Italia. [1] In 1976, he played with league rivals the Montreal Castors. [2] Throughout his two-year tenure with Montreal he was named to the NSL All-Star team. [3] In late 1977, Nicolini along with six Montreal players were traded to the Ottawa Tigers in order to assist in their playoff match against Toronto Croatia to gain promotion to the NSL First Division. [4] The transaction provided Montreal the bargaining rights to Mick Jones. [5]
In 1978, he signed with the Rochester Lancers of the North American Soccer League. [6] He recorded his first goal for Rochester on July 15, 1978, against New England Tea Men. [7] He in his debut season with Rochester he appeared in 24 matches and recorded 1 goal. [8] The following season Rochester didn't re-sign Nicolini for the 1979 season. [9] In 1981, he returned to the National Soccer League to play with Toronto Panhellenic. [10] In 1982, he returned to his former club Toronto Italia. [11] In 1983, he played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League with the Hamilton Steelers. [12]
Nicolini served as the player-coach for the Montreal Castors in the National Soccer League for the 1977 season. [13]
The Rochester Lancers were an American soccer team that competed in the American Soccer League (ASL) from 1967 until 1969, and in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1970 to 1980. The team was based in Rochester, New York, and played home games at Holleder Memorial Stadium. The Lancers won the 1970 NASL Championship and was the only NASL team to compete in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. The Lancers could not sustain their early success, posting two winning records and a few playoff appearances before folding after the 1980 season.

The Serbian White Eagles were the NSL Cup winners and the Canadian representative for the 1975 CONCACAF Champions' Cup.
