Hunuki Saletogia Hunukitama [1] (died July 2003 [2] ) was a Niuean politician and independent [3] member of the Niue Assembly from 2001 until his death in 2003. Prior to his election to the Assembly,Hunukitama served as the Secretary to the Premier of Niue. [4] Additionally,Hunukitama served in managerial roles across a number of governmental and business organizations.
Hunukitama was elected to a common roll seat in the Niue Assembly in an April 2001 by-election that occurred after MP Hima Douglas resigned to take an appointment as the High Commissioner of Niue to New Zealand, [3] defeating a Niue People's Party candidate by a significant margin. [3] Hunukitama was re-elected to the Niue Assembly in the 2002 Niuean general election as a common roll member. [5] In that year,Hunukitama ran against Young Vivian for Premier of Niue and lost 6 votes to 14. [6]
In 2002,Hunukitama and former Premier Sani Lakatani visited Baltimore,Maryland to broker a deal with a Korean group called the Christian Ambassador Mission Holy People University that wanted to set up a holy city in Niue that would act as the group's headquarters on 121 hectares of farmland in Vaiea. [7] The facility was planned to house 600 people,construct a temple,and be fully walled and guarded and disallow police access. In addition to meeting with the group,Hunukitama and others in the Niue government conducted background checks for the organization. [7] [8]
Prior to his election to the Assembly,Hunukitama served as the Secretary to the Premier of Niue. [4]
Hunukitama was the inaugural chairman of the first Polynesian radio station in Auckland [3] and was a manager of the Auckland Office of Pacific Island Affairs. As of 2001,Hunukitama was the chief executive officer of the Niue Growers Association,which markets taro grown in Niue on the Auckland market. [3]
In July 2003,Hunukitama died at the Lord Liverpool Hospital after he collapsed at the Limu Reef pools. Hunukitama's family filed a formal complaint with the police regarding his treatment at the hospital. [2] [9] The 2003 Niue Common Roll by-election was held in August 2003 to fill Hunukitama's seat in the Niue Assembly. Krypton Okesene defeated five other candidates,including Lofa Rex and Kupa Magatongia,to take the vacant position. [10]

Mititaiagimene Young Vivian is a Niuean politician and diplomat,who served as Premier of Niue twice,the first time from December 1992 to March 1993 following the death of Sir Robert Rex,and the second from 2002 to 2008. He also served as a Cabinet Minister multiple times,first as Minister of Education,Economic Development and Agriculture and later as Minister of Finance under Robert Rex,and in the Cabinet of Sani Lakatani. From 1979 to 1982 he served as Secretary-General of the South Pacific Commission.
The Niue People's Party was a political party in Niue. Founded in 1987 by Niueans living in New Zealand,it was disbanded in 2003. It was,during that time,the country's only political party.
The Niue Assembly or Niue Parliament is the legislature of Niue. It consists of 20 members;14 representatives of the villages and 6 elected on a common island-wide roll. Members are directly elected by universal suffrage,and serve a three-year term. Niue follows the Westminster system of government,with the Premier elected by the Assembly and the Cabinet drawn from it.

Tauveve O’Love Jacobsen is a Niuean politician and diplomat. She served as Niue's High Commissioner to New Zealand from 2011 to 2017. Her predecessor was Sisilia Talagi,Niue's first female diplomat and High Commissioner. She had previously served as a member of the Niue Assembly and a minister in Toke Talagi's government. She was previously a long-standing leading figure in the informal parliamentary Opposition to Young Vivian's government. She was,from 2008 to 2011,Minister of Health,Minister of Public Works,Minister of Women's Affairs,and Minister in charge of the Niue Power Corporation. She had previously been Minister of Education,Health,Environment,Training and Development. Additionally,Jacobsen is a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association,and Patroness of the Niuean Volleyball Association.
Hima Ikimotu Douglas is a Niuean broadcaster,politician,and diplomat. He is Speaker of the Niue Assembly.
Sir Toke Tufukia Talagi was a Niuean politician,diplomat,and statesman. He served as Premier of Niue from 2008 to 2020.
Terry Donald Coe is a Niuean politician and former cabinet minister.
Atapana Siakimotu was a Niuean politician,diplomat,and public servant. He served as the speaker of the Niuean Assembly between 2002 and 2011.

Richard Hipa is a member of the Niue Assembly,and was first elected at the 2020 elections. While he initially planned to run in the constituency of Alofi north,he ultimately ran as a candidate on the common roll. Hipa received 440 votes in the election,which gave him the most votes in the election. This led to speculation that he would put his name forward as a contender for Premier,something Hipa confirmed,but ultimately he did not put his name forward and the election was contested between Dalton Tagelagi and O'Love Jacobsen.
