The Hupisaaret Islands City Park is a public urban park in the Myllytulli district in central Oulu, Finland. The park is located in the delta of the River Oulu. The area was built as a public park in the 1860s, the first white wooden bridges that characterize the park were also built at the time.^[1]

Small brooks and waterways divide the park area into smaller and larger islands. Largest of the islands are Plaatansaari, Pakolansaari, Paratiisisaari, Kiikkusaari and Lasaretinsaari. The Hupisaaret name was previously used only for the group of numerous unnamed small islands in the northern part of the park, but later the whole park area was named after these islands.^[1]

The Northern Ostrobothnia museum has been located on the Pakolansaari island in the park since 1911. The first museum building, a national romantic villa, was built in 1888, but it was destroyed in a fire in 1929. The current building designed by architect Oiva Kallio has been completed in 1930.

University of Oulu Botanical Gardens were located on the Kiikkusaari island in the Hupisaaret park until 1983 before moving to the Linnanmaa campus. Nowadays the greenhouses are used by the environment department of the city.^[2] Also there is a café located in one of the greenhouses. There is a central playground on the Kiikkusaari island next to the greenhouses.

The Oulun Työväen Näyttämö (i.e. Oulu Workers' theatre) has operated an open-air theatre in the Hupisaaret Islands since 1957. The current theatre building has been built in 1987.^[3]

With 23,226 residents as of 2017, the island is Finland's second largest by population, after Fasta Åland. Its land area is 3.85 km².

Oulun Lyseon Lukio is a Finnish upper secondary school in the city of Oulu in northern Finland. The school has over 60 teachers and about 750 students. In addition to the Finnish national curriculum the school provides the option to study the International Baccalaureate programme in English. Since 2018 Lyseo has a distance teaching campus in the small town of Tyrnävä. In 2018 255 students, of which 50 took the IB programme, were accepted to the school.

The Finnish National Theatre, established in 1872, is a theatre located in central Helsinki on the northern side of the Helsinki Central Railway Station Square. Oulu Castle was a late defense castle in Oulu, Finland. It was built on an island in the delta of Oulu River in 1590. The castle was mostly made of wood and earth walls. There probably was an earlier medieval castle on the same site latest by 1375. The Russian Sophia Chronicle has recorded that men from Novgorod tried to conquer a new castle in the Oulu River delta in 1377 but were unsuccessful.

Veikko Johannes Törmänen is a Finnish artist, who paints and makes graphic art. His works were displayed for the first time in a solo exhibition in Oulu, Finland, in 1972.

Eräjärvi is a former municipality of Finland.

Villa Hannala is a historic villa in Toppilansaari, Oulu, Finland. Located at Kahvelitie 1, the villa was built in 1859 for the Snellman family. Decorations and a tower were added in the 1890s. After surviving the threat of demolition, the building became property of the city of Oulu. In 2004–2007 it was renovated by the adult educational centre of Oulu Polytechnic. Today, the villa is almost fully restored. A café was established for visitors.

The Botanical Garden of the University of Oulu is one of the northernmost scientific gardens in the world. Botanical Garden collection of plants is maintained for teaching and research purposes and it is open to the public.

Myllytulli is a district of the city centre area of Oulu, Finland.

Tietomaa is a science centre in Oulu, Finland. It is located in Myllytulli district near the city centre. It is the first science centre in Finland and it was opened to the public on 29 June 1988.
