The Kuwait national football team is the national team of Kuwait and is controlled by the Kuwait Football Association. Kuwait made one World Cup finals appearance, in 1982, managing one point in the group stages. In the Asian Cup, Kuwait reached the final in 1976 and won the tournament in 1980.
The 1980 AFC Asian Cup was the 7th edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The finals were hosted by Kuwait between 15 and 30 September 1980. The field of ten teams was split into two groups of five. Kuwait won their first championship, beating South Korea in the final 3–0.
The Kuwait Premier League, known as Zain Premier League due to sponsorship reasons, is the top division of the Kuwait football pyramid system. Formed in 1961, Al-Arabi, Qadsia and Kuwait both hold the best record in the competition, having won 17 times.
Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in the Ardhiyah area of Kuwait City, Kuwait. Completed in 2009, it is used mostly for football matches and athletics. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 seated spectators, the building is constructed in 4 levels, with 54 corporate boxes and parking lot with a 6,000 car capacity. It was expected to open in second quarter of 2010, but the building failed structural-integrity testing and remained closed due to a miscalculation by structural engineers for nearly half a decade. However it was finally opened on 18 December 2015. Jaber Al-Ahmad stadium is currently the new home of the Kuwait national football team.
Al-Arabi Sporting Club is a Kuwaiti sports club based in Mansuriya, Kuwait City. The most notable section is football team in the Kuwait Premier League.
Al-Qadsia Sporting Club is primarily a professional football club. Based in Kuwait City, Al Qadsia was founded in 1953 and first called Al-Jazira, before being renamed to Al Qadsia SC on 20 October 1960. Qadsia currently plays in the Kuwait Premier League and has won the league recordable 17 times, as the top winning club.

The 2009 AFC Cup Final was a football match played on Tuesday, 3 November 2009 between Al-Kuwait and Al-Karamah. It was the 6th final of the AFC Cup and was the first time the final match to be played in a one-off format. The game was played at Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium, being the home ground of Al-Kuwait. Al-Kuwait won the title by winning over Al-Karamah 2-1.
The 2010–11 Kuwaiti Premier League season was the 49th since its establishment. The season started in August and finished in April after a 3-month break for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup played in January.

The defending champions were Kuwait. However, they did not get past the group stage. The tournament was won by Syria for the first time.

This was the first time there had been 14 teams since the 2005–06 season. Kuwait SC came into this tournament as defending champion after they won the title last season following four seasons without a league title.

Originally the league was structured at 8 teams but Kuwait FA announced its expansion in football so last seasons 2017–18 relegated team have been un-relegated and 2017–18 Kuwaiti Division One winners Al-Shabab SC and losing play-off team Al-Fahaheel FC will all compete this season.
