I'm Not the Only One is a 2004 political autobiography by the British politician George Galloway. The book details his political beginnings in the Labour Party in Glasgow, his opposition to the invasion of Iraq, support for the Palestinian cause and the founding of the Respect Party. [1]
Johann Hari in The Independent described the book as a "strange, repetitive little manifesto". [2] The book was also criticised by Andrew Anthony in The Guardian who, apart from labelling Galloway an apologist for dictators, wrote that Galloway has an "enduring ability to believe in transparent fictions". [3] Jim Horton in Socialism Today was more positive, but wrote that in I'm Not the Only One "there is hardly a scintilla of a socialist programme". [4]
The Independent is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the Indy, it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition.

The British left can refer to multiple concepts. It is sometimes used a shorthand for groups aligned with the Labour Party. George Galloway is a British politician, broadcaster, and writer who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Rochdale since the 2024 by-election. He has been the leader of the Workers Party of Britain since he founded it in 2019. Between 1987 and 2010, and between 2012 and 2015, Galloway served as MP for four constituencies, first for the Labour Party and later for the Respect Party, the latter of which he joined in 2004 and led from 2013 until its dissolution in 2016.

Christopher Hitchens was a British-American author, polemicist, debater and journalist who in his youth took part in demonstrations against the Vietnam War, joined organisations such as the International Socialists while at university and began to identify as a socialist. However, after 9/11 he no longer regarded himself as a socialist and his political thinking became largely dominated by the issue of defending civilization from terrorists and against the totalitarian regimes that protect them. Hitchens nonetheless continued to identify as a Marxist, endorsing the materialist conception of history, but believed that Karl Marx had underestimated the revolutionary nature of capitalism. He sympathized with libertarian ideals of limited state interference, but considered libertarianism not to be a viable system. In the 2000 U.S. presidential election, he supported the Green Party candidate Ralph Nader. After 9/11, Hitchens advocated the invasion of Iraq. In the 2004 election, he very slightly favored the incumbent Republican President George W. Bush or was neutral and in 2008 he favored the Democratic candidate Barack Obama over John McCain despite being critical of both of them.
On 29 March 2012, a by-election was held for the House of Commons constituency of Bradford West. It was unexpectedly won by George Galloway of the Respect Party who defeated the Labour Party candidate by a large margin in a result referred to by Galloway as the "Bradford Spring". Galloway said the election result was Bradford's "peaceful democratic uprising" version of the riots which swept through England in August 2011.

Cliff and his followers criticised the Soviet Union and its satellites, calling them state capitalist rather than socialist countries.
