Idupuganti Bhooshana Rao (6 January 1914 – 3 May 1976) was a leading figure in forensic medicine in India. He was the Founding-President of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine established in 1972. [1] He was born in Dornakal, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana), India.

Education

He obtained his M.B.B.S degree in 1940; he also obtained an M.D (Pathology) in 1945 from the Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam. Later, he underwent postgraduate training in the United Kingdom with a Colombo Plan Fellowship in 1956.

Among his notable cases were the Deendayal Upadhyaya case, [11] [12] Indraprastha Estate case, Lajpatnagar Police Station case, Meena Tandon case [13] and the Tank Bund Double Murder Case. [14] He was also asked by the Government of India to investigate the untimely demise of Lal Bahadur Shastri, then Prime Minister of India. [3]

He lost the 1999 elections and subsequently retired from active politics. Botanical Garden in Hyderabad is named after him.

Osmania Medical College, formerly known as Hyderabad Medical School, is a public medical college in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It was founded in 1846 by the 5th Nizam of Hyderabad and Berar, Afzal ud Dowla, Asaf Jah V. The college was originally affiliated to Osmania University system, now it is affiliated to the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, and the Osmania General Hospital. Badri Nath Tandon was an Indian gastroenterologist, hepatologist, medical researcher and academic, and the Chairman and Senior Consultant of Gastroenterology, at Metro Hospitals and Heart Institute, Noida. He is a former Professor and Head of Department of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi (AIIMS) and a former Director and Senior Consultant of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute for Liver, Renal and Digestive Diseases, New Delhi. He is a recipient of several awards including Sasakawa WHO Health Prize and Jubilee Medal of the RAMS. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1986, for his contributions to medicine.
