The International Academy of Design & Technology in Nashville was a for-profit college founded in 2004. It is located in Nashville, Tennessee, and offers specialized bachelor's or associate degrees. The International Academy of Design & Technology in Nashville was formerly accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). On December 12, 2016, John King Jr., the United States Secretary of Education, finalized the process of revoking the U.S. Department of Education's recognition of ACICS as an accreditor. [1] [2] It has subsequently gone out of business.

The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) is a non-profit education corporation that is recognized by the United States Department of Education as an independent and autonomous national accrediting body. ACICS was established in 1912. It accredited 245 institutions of higher education offering undergraduate and graduate diplomas and degrees in both traditional formats and through distance education. ACICS is incorporated in Virginia and operates from offices in Washington, D.C. Concerns about the quality of its accreditation led the U.S. Department of Education to withdraw the accreditor's recognition in 2016 but the decision was remanded to Secretary of Education DeVos in March 2018 for further review. While that review is under way, the organization's accreditation remains valid.

John King Jr. 10th United States Secretary of Education

John B. King Jr. is the President and CEO of The Education Trust. He served as the 10th United States Secretary of Education from 2016 to 2017. Immediately before he assumed leadership of the Department, he served as its Acting Deputy Secretary, and from 2011 to 2014 he was the New York State Education Commissioner. The former Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, was charged with implementing the No Child Left Behind Act; however, King was obliged to carry out the provisions of that law's modified successor legislation, the Every Student Succeeds Act.

It was founded as the International Academy of Merchandising and Design, Ltd. in 1977 by Clem Stein, Jr. In 2001, the academy changed its name to the International Academy of Design & Technology. In 2015, the school was closed.

The Community College Week magazine recognized Gibbs – Melville’s Criminal Justice program in their report on the nation’s “Top 100 Associate Degree Producers” in July 2007.

IADT - Tampa was a for-profit college offering both bachelor and associate degrees in many different fields of study. The former Sears executive Clem Stein established the original International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago in 1977. The Tampa location opened in 1984. IADT's holding company, Career Education Corporation, merged the school under the Sanford-Brown College name in March 2014 before closing the location a year later.

Coleman University

Coleman University was a private, non-profit institution, centered in Information Technology education located in San Diego, California. Coleman had a technology-based curriculum with undergraduate, graduate, and distance education academic programs. Previously accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, Coleman University was a candidate for accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The university closed in 2018 due to financial troubles and the lost in their bid for regional accredidation.
