IGF2 antisense RNA is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IGF2-AS gene. [3]

Contents

Function

This gene is expressed in antisense to the insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) gene and is imprinted and paternally expressed. It is thought to be non-coding because the putative protein is not conserved and translation is predicted to trigger nonsense mediated decay (NMD). Transcripts from this gene are produced in tumors and may function to suppress cell growth. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015].

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Long non-coding RNA</span> Non-protein coding transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides

Long non-coding RNAs are a type of RNA, generally defined as transcripts more than 200 nucleotides that are not translated into protein. This arbitrary limit distinguishes long ncRNAs from small non-coding RNAs, such as microRNAs (miRNAs), small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), and other short RNAs. Given that some lncRNAs have been reported to have the potential to encode small proteins or micro-peptides, the latest definition of lncRNA is a class of RNA molecules of over 200 nucleotides that have no or limited coding capacity. Long intervening/intergenic noncoding RNAs (lincRNAs) are sequences of lncRNA which do not overlap protein-coding genes.

Haptocorrin (HC) also known as transcobalamin-1 (TC-1) or cobalophilin is a transcobalamin protein that in humans is encoded by the TCN1 gene. One essential function of haptocorrin is protection of the acid-sensitive vitamin B12 while it moves through the stomach. A second function is serum HC binding of the great majority of circulating vitamin B12, rendering it unavailable for take-up by cells. This is conjectured to be a circulating storage function.

Cleft lip and palate transmembrane protein 1-like protein, also known as cisplatin resistance-related protein 9 (CRR9p), is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CLPTM1L gene. CRR9p is associated with cisplatin-induced apoptosis. CLPTM1L, which lies within a cancer susceptibility locus on chromosome 5 (5p15.33), has been found to be commonly over-expressed in lung tumors and to confer resistance to apoptosis caused by genotoxic agents in association with up-regulation of the anti-apoptotic protein, Bcl-xL. Inhibition of CLPTM1L has been shown to inhibit oncogenic transformation and tumorigenesis caused by the KRas oncogene partially through the PI3K/Akt survival signaling axis.
