Idrettslaget Heming is a Norwegian sports club from Slemdal, Oslo. It has sections for association football, Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, orienteering and tennis, previously also for bandy.
It was founded on 25 May 1916, and named after a mythological character based in the Viking Age. It has the sports field Hemingbanen and the indoor arenas Heminghallen and Nye Heminghallen near Gråkammen station. [1] Famous members include Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen, [2] Marius Eriksen, Astrid Sandvik, Thorleif Schjelderup, Harald Maartmann and Astrid Sunde. [3]
The men's football team currently plays in the Fourth Division, the fifth tier of Norwegian football. It last played in the Third Division in 2008.
IL Heming was among the pioneering clubs in orienteering in the 1930s. Among the top orienteers were Otto Erichsen, Finn Jespersen and Per Bergsland. In 1939 Per Bergsland placed second at the individual Norwegian championship in orienteering held at Modum. [4] During World War II Bergsland was a pilot in the RAF 332 Squadron. He was shot down at Dieppe Raid, and held at the POW camp Stalag Luft III and one of only three men to escape to freedom in the "Great Escape" in 1944. [5] At the Scandinavian cup between Sweden and Norway held 10 sept 1939 two of Heming's orienteers excelled at the individual competition. Otto Erichsen won the individual contest, while Finn Jespersen placed third. [4] While a pilot for the RAF 97 Squadron during World War II, Jespersen's Lancaster was shot down over Cherbourg the night between 5 and 6 June 1944. [6]
In 1950 IL Heming won the Norwegian orienteering championship in relay, in Hølonda, before Asker SK, the club team consisting of Ingar Jacobsen, Kr. A. Arnesen and Hans Petter Dahm. In 1951 Heming placed second in the relay championship. The club hosted the Norwegian championship in relay in 1956. [7]
Sgt Per Bergsland was a Norwegian fighter pilot and POW in the German POW camp Stalag Luft III and one of only three men to escape to freedom in the "Great Escape".
The Egebergs Ærespris is a prize awarded to Norwegian athletes who excel in more than one sport. The prize was created by Ferdinand Julian Egeberg, and consists of a bronze statuette modelled by sculptor Magnus Vigrestad.

Ivar Formo was a Norwegian cross-country skier and orienteer who competed during the 1970s.
Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen is a Norwegian former cross-country skier and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She skied with the IL Heming club in Oslo, near Holmenkollen. Her greatest achievement is winning the gold medal in sprint at the 2007 World Championships. On 22 April 2020, she announced her retirement from cross-country skiing in favour of medical studies.
Øyvin Thon is a Norwegian orienteering competitor, and has seven gold medals at the World Orienteering Championships.
Åge Hadler is a Norwegian orienteering competitor, winner of the 1966 and 1972 individual World Orienteering Championships, relay champion from 1970, and individual bronze medalist from 1968.
Ola Skarholt, was a Norwegian orienteering competitor. He became Relay World Champion in 1970 as a member of the Norwegian winning team, which also consisted of Stig Berge, Per Fosser and Åge Hadler. Skarholt placed fourth in the individual contest.
Sigurd Dæhli is a Norwegian orienteering competitor. He became Relay World Champion in 1981, by participating on the Norwegian winning team in Thun, Switzerland. He obtained bronze in the 1983 Individual World Orienteering Championships in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.
Ann-Marie Wallsten is a Swedish orienteering competitor and European champion. She won a silver medal in the individual event and a gold medal in the relay event at the 1964 European Orienteering Championships in Le Brassus, Switzerland.
The Danish Orienteering Federation is the national Orienteering Association in Denmark. It is recognized as the orienteering association for Denmark by the International Orienteering Federation, of which it is a member.
Harald Thon is a Norwegian orienteering competitor who represented the club IF Sturla and the Norwegian national team. He was part of the Norwegian winning team in relay at the World Orienteering Championships in 1981 and 1983.
Astrid Carlson was a Norwegian orienteering competitor who competed in the 1970s. She participated at the 1978 World Orienteering Championships in Kongsberg, where she placed 8th in the individual course. She won a silver medal in the relay at the 1979 World Orienteering Championships in Tampere, together with Anne Berit Eid and Brit Volden.
Øystein Halvorsen is a Norwegian orienteering competitor who competed in the 1970s.
Per Kristiansen is a former Norwegian orienteering competitor who competed in the 1950s and 1960s, and later served as an official for the sport at a national level. He became National Champion both individually and in relay, and was twice the individual medal winner at the Scandinavian Championships. He participated at the two first European Orienteering Championships, with a silver medal in relay as his best result.

Finn Varde Jespersen was among Norway's leading orienteers in the late 1930s. During World War II, he was a pilot with the rank of lieutenant. He perished during the invasion of Normandy.

Nydalens Skiklub is a Norwegian sports club from Nydalen, Oslo. It was founded in 1886, and has sections for orienteering, Nordic skiing and ski orienteering. The club organized national ski jumping competitions regularly from 1891 to 1953, and had its own ski jumping venue at Korsvoll. In orienteering, the club won national championships in relay in 1954 (men), 1968 (women), 1996, 1997 and 1999 (men), and 2000 and 2005 (women). The club organized the national orienteering championships in relay in 1953, the individual Norwegian championships in orienteering in 1961. and the national championships in 1999. Among the successful orienteers from the club are Bjørnar Valstad, Astrid Hansen, Elisabeth Ingvaldsen, Marianne Andersen and Carl Henrik Bjørseth. The club won the women's relay competition in Tiomila in 2006.
The 1st World Orienteering Championships were held in the village of Fiskars, Finland, 1–2 October 1966.
