I Am Woman is a platform created by the Karan Gupta Education Foundation and IE Business School to celebrate and award the inspiration of women. At the event power women speak about their professional and personal challenges and how they overcame them. [1] [2] [3]
Recipients of the I Am Woman 2016 awards have included Sonam Kapoor for her performance in the film Neerja , Lucky Morani, Amrita Raichand, Devita Saraf among others. [4]
In April 2017 the I Am Woman awards went to Amruta Fadnavis, Laxmi Agarwal, Gauri Sawant, Krishika Lulla, Farah Khan Ali, Malini Agarwal and Shaheen Mistri for their contributions towards women empowerment. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]
In the third edition of I Am Woman in 2018 Sushmita Sen, Leah Tata, Michelle Poonawalla, Bhavna Jasra, Falguni Peacock, Malishka RJ, Abha Singh, Preethi Srinivasan, and Jyoti Dhawale were awarded. The event was compared by Amber Wigmore and Madhoo. [11] [12] In this edition of the I Am Woman awards, nominations for the awards were opened to the public and thousands of responses were received. Guests and celebrities at the prestigious award ceremony included Maheka Mirpuri, Sheeba Akashdeep, Reshma Merchant, Farah Khan Ali, Aarti and Kailash Surendranath, Mreenal Deshraj, Vikas Bhalla, Kiran Bawa, Arzoo Gowitrikar, Aditi Govitrikar among others. In April 2019, Karan Gupta hosted the 4th edition of I Am Woman. The winners included Sonali Bendre, designer Neeta Lulla, Genesis Luxury co-founder Deepika Gehani, Priya Kumar (author), Infosys learning head Kisha Gupta, lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat and social activists Sindhutai Sapkal and Neehari Mandali. The hosts for the panel discussions were Manasi Joshi Roy, Manasi Scott and actors Rohit Roy, Parvin Dabas and Tanuj Virwani. Guests and celebrities at the prestigious award ceremony included Divya Seth, Vidya Malvade, Sandip Soparrkar, Aarti and Kailash Surendranath, among others. Previous ‘I Am Woman’ award winners Reshma Merchant, Kiran Bawa, Maheka Mirpuri and Bhavna Jasra were also present. Sonali Bendre advised women to be financially independent. [14] [15]
In Sep 2024, Karan Gupta hosted the 5th edition of the I Am Woman awards and felicitated Richa Chadha with the Woman of Substance award. Other awardees in business included Nawaz Modi Singhania, Resham Chhabria, Minal Deshpande and Suzannah Muthoot. Awardees for women's rights included Dr. Rishma Pai and Senior Advocate Mrunalini Deshmukh. Activists Chandni Di and Swaranlatha J were also awarded. Sonali Bendre Behl is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi and Telugu films. She did modelling assignments prior to making her acting debut with Aag (1994), which won her the Filmfare Award for New Face of the Year.
Neerja Bhanot was an Indian flight purser. On 5 September 1986, she saved a large number of passengers onboard Pan Am Flight 73, which had been hijacked by four terrorists from the Abu Nidal Organization after it made a stopover at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan. Around 17 hours into the standoff, after she opened an emergency exit door and began helping passengers escape from the plane, Neerja was shot and killed by the hijackers. Shortly afterward, Pakistan's Special Service Group stormed the aircraft and captured all of the hijackers.

Chadha's breakthrough came in 2012 with the crime film Gangs of Wasseypur, in which her role as the foul-tongued wife of a gangster earned her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.

The Neerja Bhanot Award is an award of recognition conferred up to once a year by the Neerja Bhanot-Pan Am Trust in India to a woman of that country subjected to social injustice, who faces the situation with grit and determination and extends help to other women in similar distress. The annual Neerja Bhanot Award was instituted in 1990 and named in honour of Senior Flight Purser, Neerja Bhanot, who saved hundreds of lives while sacrificing her own, during the Pan Am Flight 73 hijack at Karachi Airport (Pakistan), in September 1986. It carries a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh, a citation and a trophy.

Shriya Pilgaonkar is an Indian actress, director and producer who primarily works in Hindi films and web series. Neerja is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language biographical thriller film directed by Ram Madhvani and written by Saiwyn Quadras and Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh. It was produced by Atul Kasbekar's company, Bling Unplugged, alongside Fox Star Studios. The film stars Sonam Kapoor as the eponymous lead, with Shekhar Ravjiani, Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tiku, Kavi Shastri and Jim Sarbh in supporting roles.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) is an annual festival based in Melbourne founded in 2010. It was previously funded by Victoria State Government. It is presented by Film Victoria, and the provider is chosen through a tender process. The current tender provider is Mind Blowing Films, run by Mitu Bhowmick Lange who is the Festival Director of IFFM. The festival has currently been provided with State Government funding until 2018. The goal of the film festival is to showcase Indian cinema to the Australian audience. The festival has streamed Bollywood films, Indie movies, documentaries, regional cinema from India etc. It also organizes short film competitions, dance competitions and a flag hoisting ceremony since it is during the time of Indian Independence day celebrations in Melbourne.

Yeh Hai Chahatein is an Indian Hindi-language drama television series produced by Ekta Kapoor for Star Plus. It streams on Disney+ Hotstar and is a spin-off of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. The show aired from 19 December 2019 to 18 September 2024. It starred Sargun Kaur Luthra, Abrar Qazi, Shagun Sharma and Pravisht Mishra as the leads.
The Broken News is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language newsroom drama web series directed by Vinay Waikul on ZEE5 starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Sonali Bendre, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Jay Upadhyay, Indraneil Sengupta, Taaruk Raina, Aakash Khurana and Kiran Kumar. It is a remake of the British series Press. It is written by Mike Bartlett, who created the original, and Sambit Mishra. The series released on 10 June 2022 on ZEE5.
