I Saw the TV Glow (Original Score) is the score album to the 2024 film of the same name directed by Jane Schoenbrun. The album featured 20 tracks from the original score composed by Alex G and released through A24 Music on May 16, 2024.
I Saw the TV Glow is Alex G's second feature film scoring assignment after We're All Going to the World's Fair (2021), also directed by Schoenbrun. [1] [2] Alex G provided a mixtape from Schoenbrun for working on the film's score. [3] As they had been a fan of Alex's works, Schoenbrun had wrote a fan letter for Alex and in return, he sent them voice memos and recorded demos of the score to Schoenbrun on email. [4] Some of the cues were purposefully chopped and screwed and detuned to create an uneasy sonic atmosphere. [5] The score further threads the film's soundtrack serving as a companion project to the former. [6] The score album was released through A24 Music on May 16, 2024. [7] [8]
Jourdain Searles of The Hollywood Reporter wrote "Alex G's haunting soundtrack emulates the depressed, sonically chaotic sound of 90s rock". [9] Katie Rife of IGN described the score as "louder and more grating", while Chris Bumbray of JoBlo.com called it as "highly effective". [10] [11] Chad Collins of Dread Central and Taylor Antrim of Vogue called it as "sensational" and "excellent". Alexander Giannascoli, better known by his stage names Alex G or, formerly, (Sandy) Alex G, is an American musician, producer, and singer-songwriter. He started his career with DIY self-releases on Bandcamp and began building up an audience with his label debut, DSU (2014), released on Orchid Tapes to critical acclaim from various publications. He later signed with Lucky Number, who reissued his earlier releases, Rules and Trick (2012). In 2015, he signed with Domino Recording Company and released his sixth studio album, Beach Music. He followed it in 2017 with Rocket, which received further acclaim and recognition. Giannascoli's eighth studio album, House of Sugar, was released in 2019, In 2022 Alex soundtracked American director Jane Schoenbrun's film We're All Going to the World's Fair, and later released his ninth album, God Save the Animals. He signed with RCA in early 2024, and additionally soundtracked Schoenbrun's I Saw the TV Glow.
