New jack swing or swingbeat is a fusion genre spearheaded by Teddy Riley and Bernard Belle. New jack swing was most popular from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s. The sound of new jack swing comes from the hip hop "swing" beats created by drum machine, and hardware samplers, which were popular during the Golden age of hip hop, with contemporary R&B style singing.
Dead or Alive were an English pop band formed in 1980 in Liverpool. The band found success in the mid-1980s, releasing seven singles that made the UK Top 40 and three albums on the UK Top 30. They were the first band under the production team of Stock Aitken Waterman to have a number-one single. At the peak of their success, the lineup consisted of Pete Burns (vocals), Mike Percy (bass), Steve Coy (drums) and Tim Lever (keyboards).
Armand van Helden is an American DJ, record producer, remixer and songwriter from Boston. He is considered one of house music's most revered figures spanning three decades. Blue Mercedes were a pop music duo from London, England, comprising David Titlow and Duncan Millar. Their song "I Want to Be Your Property" was a Billboard Hot 100 hit, peaking at #66 in 1988, and they achieved additional success on the US Dance Charts where they spent four weeks at #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.
