Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP) is an independent research organization in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. It is involved in teaching and research into issues of government, governance, public administration, public policy and development matters in Nigeria and Africa. It also hosts the ISGPP Annual Conference [1] [2]

History

The Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP) was founded in February, 2016 by Dr. Tunji Olaopa, who had recently retired as a Permanent Secretary from the Federal Civil Service in Nigeria. [3] [4]

Programmes

The Public Policy Group

The Public Policy Group (PPG) is headed by Prof. Ademola Oyejide and it is tasked with the responsibility of organizing discourses that are meant to positively impact Nigeria’s policy architecture and policy environment. Its communication is through research publications and it reaches out to the public through seminars. Book reading programs are also organized with the aim of educating the public about government and public policy matters. The Public Policy Group is made up of a multi-disciplinary research which includes team policy, foreign policy, industry, economics, governance, social statistics/demography, human rights, education, public service, security, ICT, ethics, media & communications, literature, legislative studies, among others. The methods of operation of the Public Policy Group presents the research programme in research units (clusters). These research units (clusters) include: [5] [6]

    Notable members of this group include Remi Raji, Funmi Para-Mallam, Gabriel Babatunde Ogunmola, CBN Ogbogbo, Alaba Ogunsawo, Olabisi Ugbebor, Nkoyo Toyo, Abimbola Adelakun. [7] [8]

ISGPP Annual Conference

The Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP) hosts an Annual Conference to combat issues of bad governance in Nigeria. The inaugural conference was held in 2016 at the International Conference Centre (ICC), University of Ibadan. Personalities at the inaugural conference included former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo; former ECOWAS Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku; Vice Chancellor University of Ibadan, Abel Idowu Olayinka; Akin Mabogunje. Book Readers Club

This Club is headed by Prof Olabode Lucas. This book club is aimed at promoting reading culture, as well as provide a platform to close the knowledge and information gap in Nigeria. The Book Reading Series, organized by the Book Readers Club brings authors and the general public together in discussions and dialogues. [11] [12]

The book reading events usually brings the authors to the School as well as a Chairman, Lead Reviewer, panel of discussants and the general public. [13] [14] [15] [16]

Partnership with Google

ISGPP's Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Tunji Olaopa stated that the School was entering a partnership with Google Inc. on internet revolution. [17] [18]

Iseyin is a city located in the Nigerian state of Oyo. It is approximately 100 kilometers north of Ibadan. The city was estimated to have a population of 236,000, per a United Nations 2005 estimate, which increased to 302,990 in 2011, and has a total land mass of 1,419 km². Iseyin is centrally located and accessible via road networks from Ibadan, Oyo, Abeokuta, and Ogbomoso. There are expanses of land which can be used for industrial, agricultural and institutional purposes in and around the city. The title of the monarch of Iseyin is "The Aseyin of Iseyin".

Chief James Ajibola Idowu Ige, SAN, simply known as Bola Ige, was a Nigerian lawyer and politician. He also served as Federal Minister of Justice for Nigeria. He was murdered in December 2001.

The Nigeria Advance Party was a progressive political party during the Second Nigerian Republic, registered for the 1983 elections. Headed by lawyer Tunji Braithwaite, known for his opposition and as a lawyer, the party was the only new political organization allowed to field candidates for the 1983 elections. The party was composed of southern Nigerian intellectuals favoring a reformist government.

Abeokuta is the state capital of Ogun State in southwest Nigeria. It is situated on the east bank of the Ogun River, near a group of rocky outcrops in a wooded savanna; 77 kilometres (48 mi) north of Lagos by railway, or 130 kilometres (81 mi) by water. As of 2006, Abeokuta and the surrounding area had a population of 449,088.

Olusegun Mimiko Nigerian politician

Olusegun Mimiko born 3 October 1954, was the senatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party for Ondo Central District in the 2019 election. He is a Nigerian politician who served as the 16th, and fifth civilian, Governor of Ondo State, Nigeria, from February 2009, to February 2017. The first two-term governor of Ondo state and the first Labour Party governor in Nigeria. Mimiko was previously a federal minister for housing and urban development, a secretary to the Ondo State Government, and a two-time Ondo State Commissioner for Health.

Olatunji Ariyomo is an engineer and a technology advocate variously described as one of the 'issues in Ondo State politics' and a 'firebrand'. Popularly called 'Tunji L'ght Ariyomo, he is a youthful leader and motivator in Ondo State, Nigeria who has "garnered a reputation ... for delivering (results) on the use of technology no matter the odds". He trained as an Energy Engineering expert at the University of Sheffield (England) and as a Civil and Structural Engineer at the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria. Ariyomo is an advocate of a technology driven economic sector in Nigeria. He was nominated International Poet of Merit by the International Society of Poets in 1995. He won the overall best candidate prize at the Professional Examination of the Nigerian Society of Engineers in 2005 and has served twice as Senior Aide to the Governor of Ondo State, Nigeria on information technology. He was the pioneer coordinator of the Ondo State Information Technology Development Centre. He was appointed by Dr. Olusegun Agagu in 2005. He is a playwright, a poet and the author of the book “Odundun, African Legendary Monarch” one of the approved texts for secondary school education in Ondo State.

David Medayese Jemibewon is a retired Nigerian Army major general who served as military governor of the now defunct Western State during the military regime of General Murtala Muhammed, governor of Oyo State after it had been created from part of the old Western State during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo, and later as Minister of Police Affairs in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo after the return to democracy. He was a contender for the Kogi West Senatorial office in Kogi State.

Chief Sunday Afolabi is a Nigerian politician who served in the Cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo as Minister of Internal Affairs. Later he stood trial for alleged bribery concerning contracts for the National ID card plan.

Samuel Babatunde Emiko Bajah was science teacher and author. He co-wrote Chemistry: A New Certificate Approach with Arthur Godman.

Major General Saidu Ayodele Balogun, was appointed the first Governor of Ogun State, Nigeria after it was formed from part of the old Western State in March 1976, holding office until July 1978 during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo.

Akin Mabogunje nigerian geographer

Akinlawon Ladipo "Akin" Mabogunje is a Nigerian geographer. He was the first African president of the International Geographical Union. In 1999, he was the first African to be elected as a Foreign Associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences. In 2017, he was elected a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and received the Vautrin Lud Prize.

The Mbari Club was a centre for cultural activity by African writers, artists and musicians that was founded in Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1961 by Ulli Beier, with the involvement of a group of young writers including Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe. Mbari, an Igbo concept related to "creation", was suggested as the name by Achebe. Among other Mbari members were Christopher Okigbo, J. P. Clark and South African writer Ezekiel Mphahlele, Frances Ademola, Demas Nwoko, Mabel Segun, Uche Okeke, Arthur Nortje and Bruce Onobrakpeya.

Adeolu Akande is a Nigerian political scientist and professor of Political Science at the Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State.

Tunji Olaopa, is a Nigerian political scientist and public administrator. He is the Executive Vice Chairman of Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy, Bodija, Ibadan and a Professor of Public Policy at the Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a political party in Nigeria. The party was originally named "Alliance for Democratic Change" when it was formed in 2005, but changed to the African Democratic Congress by the time the party was registered with the Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The goal of this name change was for the party to be able "to effectively encompass and reflect the aspirations of our people." The ADC headquarters is located in Abuja, Nigeria, but there are plans for the office to relocate in 2019. The party constitution states that the goal of the party is to create a grass root organization, of and for Nigerians. For the selection of their candidates for the 2019 Nigerian general election, the ADC used the method of party members directly electing candidates during the primaries. On 24 September 2018, the African Democratic Congress selected senator Abdulaziz Nyako as the candidate for the 2019 Nigerian general elections.
