Somalia sent a delegation to compete at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia from 15 September to 1 October 2000. This was the African country's fifth appearance at a Summer Olympic Games, following their debut twenty-eight years earlier at the 1972 Summer Olympics. The delegation consisted of two athletics competitors: Ibrahim Mohamed Aden and Safia Abukar Hussein, the latter was Somalia's first female Olympic athlete. Neither of the two participants progressed beyond the first round of their respective competitions.
Djibouti took part in the 1996 Summer Olympics, which were held in Atlanta, United States from 19 July to 4 August. The country's participation marked its fourth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, United States. Ibrahim Moustafa was a Greco-Roman wrestler from Egypt. At his first international tournament, the 1924 Olympics, he finished fourth in the light-heavyweight category. Four years later he won the gold medal in this event, becoming the second Egyptian Olympic champion after Sayed Nosseir. At the 1928 Summer Olympics he was the flag bearer for Egypt in the opening ceremony. Next year, upon invitation from the Swedish Wrestling Federation, Moustafa toured Europe and competed in several international tournaments. A carpenter by profession, upon returning home he became a wrestling coach, and prepared one of his three sons, Adel Ibrahim Moustafa, for the 1948 and 1952 Olympics. After his death, the annual Ibrahim Moustafa International Tournament was carried out in his honor.

Lebanon sent a delegation to compete at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway from 14 to 25 February 1952. This was the country's second time competing in a Winter Olympic Games, after their first appearance four years prior. Lebanon was represented in these Olympics by a single alpine skier, Ibrahim Geagea. He competed in three events, and his best finish was 57th in the men's downhill competition.
Djibouti first participated at the Olympic Games in 1984, and have competed in every Summer Olympic Games, apart from the 2004 edition, since then. They have never competed in the Winter Olympic Games.

Aminath Rouya Hussain carried the Maldivian flag during the parade of nations of the opening ceremony with sprinter Ali Shareef being the flagbearer for the closing ceremony. The country failed to win an Olympic medal at these Games and has yet to win their first medal.
Ibrahim Erikovych Aldatov is a Russian freestyle wrestler of Ossetian heritage who represents Ukraine. He won a gold medal in the 2006 FILA Wrestling World Championships and 2013 FILA Wrestling World Championships and won medals at three other World Championships. He participated at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Sierra Leone competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This marked the nation's tenth appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1968 Summer Olympics. The Sierra Leone delegation included two track and field athletes; Ibrahim Turay, a sprinter and Ola Sesay, a long jumper. İbrahim Bölükbaşı is a Turkish freestyle wrestler and judoka. He competed in freestyle wrestling in the 84 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 97 kg event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and was eliminated in early rounds. He took up wrestling aged 11. He also competed in para judo in the 100 kg event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
Ibrahim Ramadan Ibrahim Abdelbaki is an Egyptian weightlifter competing in the 77 kg category. He placed fifth at the 2012 Summer Olympics with a clean and jerk of 192 kg, and a snatch of 155 kg, giving a total of 347 kg. He finished in 9th in the same division at the 2016 Summer Olympics, with a snatch of 152 kg and a clean and jerk of 196 kg, giving a total of 338 kg.
The men's field hockey tournament at the 2000 Summer Olympics was the 19th edition of the field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held over a fifteen-day period beginning on 16 September, and culminating with the medal finals on 30 September. All games were played at the hockey centre within the Olympic Park in Sydney, Australia.
