The Nationalist Congress Party is one of the state parties in India and is one of the major political parties in Maharashtra with a recognised state party status in Nagaland and Kerala. The party has its presence in legislative assemblies of Maharashtra,Nagaland,and Arunachal Pradesh,with being in the governing coalition in all of these states. Besides this,the party is also part of the current governing coalition National Democratic Alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Raosaheb Ramrao Patil,better known as R. R. Patil,was an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra. He was an MLA for Tasgaon vidhan sabha constituency from 1991 to 2015. He was an important leader of modern Maharashtra. He was a member of the Nationalist Congress Party. He became Home Minister of Maharashtra for the second time after the 2009 Maharashtra assembly election victory of the Congress-NCP alliance. Although a parliamentary democracy,Indian politics has increasingly become dynastic,possibly due to the absence of a party organization,independent civil society associations that mobilize support for the party,and centralized financing of elections. Family members have also led the Congress party for most of the period since 1978 when Indira Gandhi floated the then Congress(I) faction of the party. It also is fairly common in many political parties in Maharashtra. The dynastic phenomenon is seen from national level down to district level and even village level.The three-tier structure of Panchayati Raj established in the 1960s also helped to create and consolidate the dynastic phenomenon in rural areas. Apart from government,political families also control cooperative institutions,mainly cooperative sugar factories,district cooperative banks in the state,and since the 1980s private for profit colleges. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also features several senior leaders who are dynasts. In Maharashtra,the NCP has particularly high level of dynasticism.

Rahul Narwekar is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is currently the MLA from the Colaba Assembly constituency and also the current Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Narwekar was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council in June 2016 as a Governor's Nominated member. He is the second-youngest person to be elected speaker of any state in the country,the youngest being Shivraj Patil. In May 2023,he completed a 4-day UK tour speaking at the Ideas for India Conference organised by Bridge India in London,and speaking with students at Cambridge University. His tour attracted media attention because of its proximity to the Supreme Court judgement on the disqualification of 16 MLAs of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. In November 2024 he was re-elected on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from the Colaba constituency and won by a huge margin.
The Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation (SMKC) is the governing body of the Sangli Metropolitan Region in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is located in Sangli. The municipal corporation consists of democratically-elected members,is headed by a mayor and administers the city's infrastructure and public services. It was founded on 9 February 1998. SMKC serves an area approximately 118.18 km2 and provides civil services and facilities for more than 6.5 lakh (650,000) people.
