Ignatius Jean is a Saint Lucian politician who represented the Castries North constituency for the Saint Lucia Labour Party until he was defeated in the general election of 11 December 2006. Ignatius Jean is the Country Representative of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in Guyana since June, 2007.

Saint Lucia country in the Caribbean

Saint Lucia is a sovereign island country in the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. The island was previously called Iyonola, the name given to the island by the native Amerindians and later, Hewanorra, the name given by the native Caribs. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of 617 km2 and reported a population of 165,595 in the 2010 census. Its capital is Castries.

Broadly speaking, a "politician" can be anyone who seeks to achieve political power in any bureaucratic institution.

Castries, population 20,000, aggl. 53,639, is the capital and largest city of Saint Lucia, an island country in the Caribbean. The quarter with the same name had a population of 70,000 on 22 May 2013 and stretches over an area of 80 km2 (31 sq mi).

He was elected as the Representative of the Castries North Constituency in the St. Lucia House of Assembly in December, 2001. He served in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in the Government of Saint Lucia (2004–2006), [1] Minister of Physical Planning, Environment and Housing (2002–2003); Parliamentary Secretary MAFF (2001–2002).

He holds an M.Sc. in Agricultural Management (1995) and Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading, UK (1994); Certificate in Risk Management, Insurance Institute of America (1998); Diploma in Agriculture from the Guyana School of Agriculture (1981–1983), Certificate in Business Administration UWI (1992).

He worked as an agronomist in the Banana Industry of Saint Lucia 1980 -1987 and later as the Chief Loss Adjuster of the Windward Islands’ Crop Insurance Limited (WINCROP) 1988 - 2001.

After working for the Commonwealth Secretariat and the West Indies Associated States, he formed the Saint Lucia Forum, a left-wing pressure group. This group merged with the Saint Lucia Labour Party in time for the 1974 elections; although the Party did not win, the progress they made allowed them to take power in 1979, with Odlum as Deputy Prime Minister.

Sir Vaughan Allen Lewis, KCSL CBE is a Saint Lucian politician and a former member of the United Workers' Party (UWP). He served for a brief period as the fourth Prime Ministers of Saint Lucia following the resignation of John Compton. Lewis, a former director of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, assumed the office of Prime Minister on April 2, 1996. He also served as Minister of Finance, Planning and Development, and Minister of External Affairs. In elections that followed on May 23, 1997, Lewis and the UWP suffered a huge setback, losing all but one of their seats in Parliament, forcing him to resign in favor of the leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, Dr. Kenny Anthony.

Sir (William) George Mallet GCSL GCMG CBE was a politician who held a number of high offices in Saint Lucia, one of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles in the Eastern Caribbean. Sir George served as the Minister for Trade, Industry, Agriculture and Tourism in the first post-independence government of St Lucia beginning in 1979. In later years, Sir George served as Deputy Prime Minister and was responsible for numerous government ministries including Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs and CARICOM Affairs.

House of Assembly of Saint Lucia

The Parliament of Saint Lucia has two chambers. The House of Assembly is the popular elected chamber of the Legislature. It has 17 or 18 members: 17 members elected for a five-year term in single-seat constituencies, and a speaker elected by the 17 members, who may be one of their number or a person chosen from outside the House.

Philip J. Pierre is a Saint Lucian politician who is the political leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party. He has been the parliamentary representative for the Castries East constituency since 1997. He became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport in 2011.

Menissa Rambally is a Saint Lucian politician who represented the Castries South East constituency for the Saint Lucia Labour Party, until she was defeated in the general election of 11 December 2006. She was appointed Permanent Representative for Saint Lucia to the United Nations in 2012.

Cyprian Lansiquot is a Saint Lucian lawyer and politician. He was a Labour Party member of the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia from 1997 to 2006 and served as a parliamentary secretary.

2006 Saint Lucian general election

The Saint Lucian general election of 2006 took place in Saint Lucia on 11 December 2006. The election was fought between the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) and the United Workers Party (UWP) which between them dominated politics in Saint Lucia. The results saw the governing Saint Lucia Labour Party lose the election to the United Workers Party led by John Compton, which gained eight seats to hold an eleven to six majority.

Keith Raymond Rufus Mondesir is a Saint Lucian politician. He has been a United Workers Party member of the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia and a member of the Saint Lucian cabinet since 2006, serving in the administrations of John Compton and Stephenson King.

Stephenson King Prime minister of Saint Lucia

Stephenson King was the sixth Prime Minister of Saint Lucia. He is the son of Grafton King; a renowned seaman, from Canouan, St.Vincent and Marie Bernadette Satney, a seamstress from the village of Choiseul. He represents the constituency of Castries North for the United Workers Party (UWP) in the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia. Although himself reelected in his constituency, his UWP party suffered defeat in the 28 November 2011 general elections.

Rukiya Kulany Chekamondo, sometimes spelled as Rukia Kulany Chekamondo, is a Ugandan educator and politician. She was the State Minister for Privatization in the Ministry of Finance, from June 2006 until May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011, she was dropped from the cabinet and replaced by Aston Kajara. She also served as the elected Member of Parliament (MP), for Kapchorwa District Women's Representative, from 2006 until 2011.
