Ijede Spring Water

Ijede Spring water [1] also known as (Odoro Water Spring in Yoruba) is a natural spring water located in the Ijede community in the Ikorodu area of Lagos discovered by the elder Baba Odoro during a severe drought. Historically, The spring is believed to be a divine gift, has provided pure, healing water to the community for generations. [2]

Description

The stream is maintained by the community, is situated adjacent to the beach, and flows directly into the Lagos lagoon. The attraction is listed as a gazetted tourism site and one of three designated sites in the Ikorodu Division by the Lagos State Government. [2] [3]

The inaugural edition of the event took place in 2021 and was attended by thousands of tourists; however, there has been growing concern about the tourist site neglect, and the restoration requires immediate attention from the government. [4] Despite its potential as a major tourist attraction, the Odoro Beach has fallen into a state of neglect. Concerns have been raised by local residents, tourists, and conservationists regarding the lack of maintenance and upkeep of the site. [3]

Its existence can be traced back to the 19th century; unveiled on February 2, 1991. Designed by late Samuel Omobowale Oduyebo. The statue symbolizes the bravery and leadership of Ogaremade, believed to be the founder of Ikorodu, a royal prince from Sagamu and a foundational figure in the establishment of Ikorodu in the 17th century.

The Eyibi Festival is an annual cultural celebration held in Oke Eletu, Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Local Government of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria. The festival is sometimes celebrated as Eyibi/Eluku Festival It showcases the community's rich Yoruba heritage, focusing on unity, peace, and spiritual renewal. Rooted in ancestral traditions, the festival serves as a time for communal bonding and cultural preservation. The Eluku and the Agemo festival are sub-festivals of the Eyibi festival which are usually celebrated among the Ijebus.
