The Elman Peace and Human Rights Center is a non-governmental organization based in Mogadishu, Somalia. It was established by Fartuun Adan in honour of her late husband Elman Ali Ahmed, a local entrepreneur and peace activist. Adan serves as the NGO's Executive Director, while their daughter Ilwad works alongside her. The organization was founded in 1990 and is dedicated to promoting peace, cultivating leadership and empowering the marginalized brackets of society to be decision makers in the processes that ensure their well-being.

1971: Beyond Borders is a 2017 Indian Malayalam-language war film written and directed by Major Ravi. It is the fourth installment in the Major Mahadevan film series, with Mohanlal reprising his role as Colonel Mahadevan and a new character, Major Sahadevan. It also features Arunoday Singh and Allu Sirish. The film, set in two time periods, is based on the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and act as both prequel and follow-up to the series. Mohanlal's and Sirish's characters were modeled on Hoshiar Singh Dahiya and Arun Khetarpal, both of whom were awarded the Param Vir Chakra for their roles in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.
The Battle of Af Urur took place on 8 June 2017, when al-Shabaab militants attacked and overran the military base and village of Af Urur in Puntland, killing many soldiers of the Puntland Security Force. Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu was an Indian Army officer and the commanding officer of 16 Bihar Regiment. He was killed in action (KIA) during the 2020 China–India skirmishes, the first Indian Armed Forces commissioned officer since 1967 and among the first Indian soldiers to have been KIA against the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) since 1975. He was posthumously decorated with India's second-highest wartime gallantry award, the Maha Vir Chakra.

The Bangladesh Army has had women in the officer ranks since its inception in 1971, though women could join as doctors only. Women were not allowed to join as ordinary soldiers till the early part of the 2010s decade. In 2013, it was announced in newspapers through recruitment advertising that women would be recruited as ordinary soldiers in the Army's Medical Corps. In 2015, the country got trained female soldiers for the first time. On the other hand, women can be commissioned in various arms and services of the army since the early 2000s decade.
