Imani Chyle

Imani Chyle is an American singer-songwriter and rapper, born and raised in Houston, Texas. Her music has been described as being "much more than just hip-hop".

Music career

During the early 1990s, Imani was one-half of a Houston-based female rap duo called 2Aggrivated. [1] Their manager, Byron Hill, signed them to a 10-album deal with Profile Records, but unresolved conflicts led to the group being dropped by Profile before their already-produced debut album was released. Imani then relocated to Atlanta for a solo career, performing under the name GChyle. Though she established herself on the club scene in the Atlanta area, her career then went on a sudden downward spiral that led to her taking five years off from music.

Upon her return from that absence, Imani relocated to Los Angeles, where she decided to restart her music career, playing in numerous clubs throughout the area, including the House of Blues in Anaheim's Downtown Disney [2] and Los Angeles' Sunset Strip, [3] the Roxy on Sunset, Viper Room, [4] and Key Club, where she opened for 1980's rockers the Bullet Boys near the end of 2011. [5]

In 2011, Imani also formed her own record label, Mos Records, [6] which is distributed by Believe Digital. [7]

She recorded tracks for her forthcoming debut album "Season of I" with producers Monyea Crawford [8] and Richard Rollie of LoveChild Productions in Atlanta. One of the songs from that forthcoming album, entitled "Lose Myself", was selected for play on the ESPNU program "Unite" [9] as the result of a submission by Real Music Opportunities. [10]

"Lose Myself" and another of Imani's songs, "Warrioress", received high reviews from Music Connection in May 2012.

"Warrioress" made its first chart appearance on December 11, 2011, when it charted among the Top 10 Rhythmic New Releases. [11] It eventually charted No. 7 on the national airplay charts, the only independent artist who charted alongside such well-known performers as Adele, Bruno Mars, Mary J. Blige, Wale, Beyoncé, Shania Twain and Robin Thicke. [12]

Imani has also earned several "Platinum Auddys" from uPlaya.com, [13] and was also featured on Akon's Hitlab [14]

Their most recent EP, named Supersonique, was released on January 24, 2011, and included 5 songs with 2 remixes, including "Supersonique", "This Party's on Fire", "Mercy Killing", "Can't Let Go", and "Goodbye".

Modest Fok was a R&B band that was created in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1980 by Debra Killings, James Killings Jr, and William "Vybe Chyle" Burke. The band was previously known as Princess & Starbreeze was signed to Eastwest Records in the 1990s. Their debut album Love or the Single Life was released in 1992 and scored two minor R&B hits on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.

"Sex Room" is a hip hop song recorded by Ludacris for his seventh studio album, Battle of the Sexes. The song features Trey Songz, who it was also written by along with Ludacris. It was produced by Kajun and was released as the third single from the album.

Megalithic Symphony is the debut studio album by American rock band Awolnation, released on March 15, 2011 through Red Bull Records. The album is the band's first full-length release, following the release of the extended play Back From Earth (2010). Megalithic Symphony has since peaked at number 84 on the United States Billboard 200 and at number 57 on the Austrian Albums Chart. As of March 2015, the album sold 581,000 copies in the United States.

Christian R&B is a subgenre of rhythm and blues music consisting of tracks with Christian-based lyrics or by musicians typically known for writing such songs. Music in this genre intends to uplift, entertain, or to give a Christian perspective on a topic. Christian R&B could be considered a subgenre of gospel music, or a cross-genre under both gospel and R&B.

Brittany Chikyra Barber is an American singer and songwriter from Compton, California. She released her debut mixtapes in 2016: AfterHours and HelloSummer. She has collaborated with artists including Ghostface Killah, Queen Naija, Chris Brown, Chrisette Michele, John Legend, YG, Kash Doll, Tyla Yaweh, Eric Bellinger, Ledisi and more. She has writing credits which include Chris Brown's "No Interruptions", Ledisi's "Let Love Rule" and numerous songs for Bhad Bhabie. In 2019, Barber was featured in the sixth season of Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood as a recurring cast member and made crossover appearances on the tenth season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. She also co-starred in BET's "IMANI" movie in 2023.
