In Trance 95 (also abbreviated to IT95) is a Greek electronic music band from Athens.
In Trance 95 are a duo from Athens, Greece. They were formed by Alex Machairas and Nik Veliotis in May 1988; Veliotis departed in 1992. Machairas said of his influences, "Albums such as Radio-Activity by Kraftwerk, the first four [albums] of Orchestral Manoeuvres [in the Dark], John Foxx's Metamatic , as well as less known material like for example the cassette Space Museum by Solid Space... influenced me in particular to make me want to create music. And the first period of the Human League and Depeche Mode of course those are key influences." [1]
They released two singles, one 12 inch and one album, while they also appeared in a number of compilations of the time. [2] Their debut 7 inch, the double A Sided "Desire To Desire / Brazilia" was released in December 1988 and it is one of the few known releases of synthpop - cold wave that came from Greece in the '80s. [3] After a period during which Nik Veliotis left to undertake other projects Alex Machairas continued with new member George Geranios in various guises including a subtle change of name to Itenef. A full reformation took place when they were invited by ex Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder to open Recoil's Athens gig in April 2010. [4] But already from 2006 there was a renewed interest in the band that was generated through the increasing popularity of the minimal synth / cold wave sound in the underground circles of mainly New York and central Europe. The birth of "Minimal Wave" as a genre brought many obscure electronic artists from the '80s in the surface including In Trance 95. Many of their early tracks eventually got regular airplay at the Minimal Wave program of NY's East Village Radio [5] and eventually in 2010, the duo signed to the New York based label. [6] With Minimal Wave's help, IT95 completed the album "Cities of Steel And Neon" which is a collection of their early tapes compiled and remastered by the duo themselves and the label's founder Veronica Vasicka. In March 2011, In Trance 95 presented their album in a live set before Vasicka's first appearance in Athens during a three-day event dedicated to analogue synthesizers and D.I.Y. tape recorder music of the '80s. American independent label Minimal Wave announced on July 20, the release of In Trance 95's album Cities of Steel and Neon which came out on October 6 of 2011 as the label's twenty-ninth release. Cities of Steel and Neon features material recorded between 1988-1989: [8] the unreleased 4-track recordings, the highly lauded first single Desire To Desire / Brazilia, and a rare version of 21st Century European Temptation. The LP is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a matte sleeve with semi-gloss inner sleeve depicting 1989 video stills of the duo. The sleeve is designed by Peter Miles using an image supplied by the well known New York artist Matthew Bakkom. [9] On December 1 of 2011, Minimal Wave released the digital version of the album with two bonus tracks from 1988, "Gunshot" and "Oslo", that were also previously unreleased. [10]
In September 2012, Minimal Wave announced the release of Shapes in a New Geometry, an album of entirely new material from In Trance 95. [11] The album first came out as a limited edition cassette on November 14 by the New York based label and included eight tracks, recorded and mixed by Alex Machairas and Nik Veliotis between February and May of the same year. [12] The digital version followed internationally on February 5 of 2013. Since the album's release the duo did a number of live shows including dates in Germany, Belgium, Greece and their first ever gig outside Europe, in Russia on February 22 of 2013. [13]
Synth-pop is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic, art rock, disco, and particularly the Krautrock of bands like Kraftwerk. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post-punk era as part of the new wave movement of the late 1970s to the mid-1980s.
Erasure are an English synth-pop duo formed in London in 1985, consisting of lead vocalist and songwriter Andy Bell with songwriter, producer and keyboardist Vince Clarke, previously known as co-founder of the band Depeche Mode and a member of synth-pop duo Yazoo. From their fourth single, "Sometimes" (1986), Erasure established themselves on the UK Singles Chart, becoming one of the most successful acts of the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. From 1986 to 2007, the pair achieved 24 consecutive top-40 entries in the UK singles chart. By 2009, 34 of their 37 chart-eligible singles and EPs had made the UK top 40, including 17 climbing into the top 10. At the 1989 Brit Awards, Erasure won the Brit Award for Best British Group.
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are an English electronic band formed in Wirral, Merseyside, in 1978. The group consists of co-founders Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, along with Martin Cooper and Stuart Kershaw (drums); McCluskey has been the only constant member. Regarded as pioneers of electronic music, OMD combined an experimental, minimalist ethos with pop sensibilities, becoming one of the most influential acts of the synth-pop genre. The band were also an early presence in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion of the US.
The White Room is the fourth and final studio album by British electronic music group The KLF, released on 3 March 1991. The album features versions of the band's hit singles, including "What Time Is Love?", "3 a.m. Eternal", and "Last Train to Trancentral".
Rhys Chatham is an American composer, guitarist, trumpet player, multi-instrumentalist, primarily active in avant-garde and minimalist music. He is best known for his "guitar orchestra" compositions. He has lived in France since 1987.
Organisation is the second studio album by English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), released on 24 October 1980 by Dindisc. On Organisation the group worked with a producer for the first time, enlisting former Gong bass player Mike Howlett, while session musician Malcolm Holmes became the band's full-time drummer. The record is noted for its dark, melancholic tone in comparison to other OMD releases.

Recorded at the group's Liverpool studio, it showcased their minimal synth-pop style and peaked at number 27 on the UK Albums Chart. "Electricity" and "Red Frame/White Light" were released as singles; a re-recorded version of "Messages" provided OMD with their first hit in the UK, reaching number 13.

Alan Davey is an English musician, best known as the former bassist with Hawkwind. He is the original bass player in Gunslinger which started in 1979 and is still the bass player and vocalist for Gunslinger. He was writing a new album for 2018 release on Cleopatra Records, as well as two solo albums for 2018 and 2019 release, and is also writing music for movies and TV shows. He has also played and recorded with Meads of Asphodel, Dumpy's Rusty Nuts, Spirits Burning, Bedouin (1998-2003). He formed with the newly re-imagined Hawklords in 2008 with Nik Turner until 2012 and since then formed The Psychedelic Warlords in 2013 until 2015.
Marsheaux is a Greek synthpop duo formed in Athens in 2003. The group is composed of vocalists, songwriters and keyboardists Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou. The name Marsheaux is derived from the first syllable of each band member's name. Both members sing almost exclusively in English. Andy McCluskey of OMD said about this band: "I do have a soft spot for Marsheaux I have to say. They have a certain sort of wispy, melancholic charm".
Brett Wickens is a Canadian graphic designer and musician known for his work with identity design. He is a partner with the Ammunition Design Group, and lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. Among other musical endeavors, Wickens was a founding member of the bands Spoons and Ceramic Hello.
Ceramic Hello was an electronic music duo from Burlington, Ontario, formed by Brett Wickens in 1980 after leaving Spoons. He teamed up with Roger Humphreys who added a classical influence to the minimal synthesizer compositions.
"Red Frame/White Light" is the second single by English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). The song is about a red telephone box in Meols, on the Wirral peninsula in Cheshire, that was used by the group to make calls to organise their gigs in the late 1970s. The track is composed of two alternating major/minor sections, each built around a synthesizer hook. Lyrical content is minimal, comprising mostly brief, spoken word utterances. It was the band's first single to chart.

Dindisc was a UK record label, an imprint of Virgin Records but operating semi-independently, which issued new releases from mid-1979 through early 1982. It is no longer active, but CD reissues on Virgin still mention the label and have Dindisc catalogue numbers.
Veronica Vasicka is a photographer, record label founder, radio and club DJ. She is the founder of Minimal Wave Records, a record label focused on obscure electronic music from the 1970s and 1980s, as well as its sub label Cititrax, a platform for newer artists.
Space Museum is the sole studio album by British minimal wave band Solid Space. It was released in 1982 by In Phaze Records through cassette, eventually becoming a rarity. It was produced by the record label's owner Pat Bermingham.
The KVB is a British audio-visual post-punk duo originally formed in London in 2010 by Nicholas Wood and Kat Day. The KVB's sound has been described as a combination of electronic, psychedelic, post-punk and shoegaze. The visual element of the band is created by Kat Day, who studied fine art at Goldsmiths, University of London.
