Indian Gymkhana Hockey Club is a field hockey club that is based at the Indian Gymkhana Club in Isleworth, London, England.

History

The Indian Gymkhana Club was founded in 1916 as a cricket club, with the hockey club being formed later. [1]

In 1984, Kulbir Bhaura was selected to represent Great Britain at the 1984 Summer Olympics [2] and famously won the gold medal four years later in the Field hockey at the 1988 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament at the 1988 Summer Olympics.

In 1991, the club finished runner-up during the 1990–91 England Hockey League season behind Havant Hockey Club. [3] [4]

In 2015 former internationa players Ian Jennings MBE and Simon Mason were appointed as Directors. [5]

Teams

The club runs various women's teams, with the Men's fist team playing in the Men's England Hockey League. [6] [7] [8]

There are five men's teams and additional teams for women, juniors and a grandmasters team. [9]

Mark Gleghorne is a field hockey player from Northern Ireland who has represented Ireland, England and Great Britain at international level. He represented Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Gleghorne was a member of the England teams that won the bronze medals at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2017 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship. He also represented England at the 2014 and 2018 Men's Hockey World Cups. At club level, Gleghorne was a member of the Instonians team that won the Irish Senior Cup in both 2002 and 2004. He was also a member of the Punjab Warriors team that won the 2016 Hockey India League title. Gleghorne is a member of a family of field hockey internationals. His younger brother, Paul, is an Ireland international. Two of his aunts, Margaret Gleghorne and Jackie McWilliams, were also Ireland and Great Britain women's internationals.

David Vincent Leslie Ames is a Northern Irish field hockey player, who plays as a defender or midfielder for Old Georgians and the England and Great Britain national teams.

The 2020–21 Men's England Hockey League season was the 2020–21 season of England's field hockey league structure and England Hockey Men's Championship Cup. The COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom caused severe disruption with the season starting on 20 September 2020, five months later than scheduled and just one week after the delayed 2019–20 season had finally ended. However, after just five rounds of games the season was suspended during October due to COVID-19 once again. During March 2021 it became evident that the fixtures could not be fulfilled and the season was cancelled.
