The President of India is the ceremonial head of state of India and the commander-in-chief of the Indian Armed Forces.
The Vice President of India is the second-highest constitutional office in India after the President. Article 63 of Indian Constitution states that "There shall be a Vice President of India." The Vice President acts as President in the absence of the president due to death, resignation, impeachment, or other situations.
Sushilkumar Sambhajirao Shinde is an Indian politician from the state of Maharashtra. He was the Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Power in the Manmohan Singh government, and the Leader of the House in Lok Sabha until 26 May 2014. He previously served as the Chief Minister of the state of Maharashtra during 18 January 2003 to October 2004.
Jaswant Singh is a retired officer of the Indian Army and a former cabinet minister. He is a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is one of India's longest serving parliamentarians, having been a member of one or the other house almost continuously between 1980 and 2014. he was elected on a BJP ticket to the Rajya Sabha five times and to the Lok Sabha four times. During the Vajpayee administration (1998-2004), he held some of the highest offices of the land, handling at various times the cabinet portfolios of Finance, External Affairs and Defence. He also served for a period as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission (1998–99). In the aftermath of India's nuclear tests of 1998, he was deputed by Prime Minister Vajpayee to act as India's single representative to hold repeated, long-term dialogue with the USA on matters related to nuclear policy and strategy; the outcome of the sustained engagement was positive for both countries. After his party lost power in 2004, Jaswant Singh served as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 2004 to 2009.
Krishan Kant was the tenth Vice President of India from 1997 until his death. Previously, he was Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 1990 to 1997.
Pratibha Devisingh Patil is an Indian politician who served as the 12th President of India from 2007 to 2012. A member of the Indian National Congress, Patil is the only woman so far to hold the office. She previously served as the Governor of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2007.

The Election Commission of India held indirect 13th presidential elections of India on 19 July 2007. Pratibha Patil with 638,116 votes won over her nearest rival Bhairon Singh Shekhawat who got 331,306 votes. This result meant that Pratibha Patil became the first female President of India.

Om Prakash Mathur is a member of Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan state in India and is a senior politician from Bharatiya Janata Party. Initially he was groomed by Bhairon Singh Shekhawat but later he became a leader on his own in B.J.P. He was a Pracharak with the RSS and later General Secretary- In charge of the Gujarat B.J.P. After, Narendra Modi's electoral victory he was made the president of Rajasthan state unit of the party, however he had to tender his resignation after the B.J.P. lost elections in Rajasthan. The defeat is accredited to his policy of giving tickets to new faces in Rajasthan instead of the mass leaders from the old school. His policy was based on a hypothesis that junior leaders would toe the party dictats unlike mass leaders who had their own following, as a result of the same many leaders like Dr. Kirorilal Meena either left the Party or were expelled as they contensted against party candidates. His close lieutinents in the Rajasthan include Srikishan Songara, Shankar Singh Rajpurohit and Sunil Singhi in Gujarat. He remained close to the organisation and never fought any elections except Rajya Sabha election. He took undue advantage of his position for getting important Express train halted at Falna

Sanjay Singh is a politician from the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. He was twice elected to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh during the 1980s and held state ministerial posts. In 1990, he became a member of the upper house of the Parliament of India, which is known as the Rajya Sabha, and in 1998 he was elected to the lower house, called the Lok Sabha. His term in the 12th Lok Sabha session lasted until the following year. Subsequently, in 2009, he was successful in obtaining a second term in that house as a member of the 15th Lok Sabha representing the Sultanpur constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He currently represents the state of Assam in the Rajya Sabha
The 2012 Indian Vice-Presidential election was held on 7 August 2012 to elect Vice-President of India. Mohammad Hamid Ansari was the incumbent and the UPA candidate. The other prime candidate was the NDA's Jaswant Singh.
The 2002 Indian vice-presidential election was held on 12 August 2002 to elect the newly-vacated post of Vice-President of India. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat defeated Sushil Kumar Shinde to become 11th Vice President of India. Incumbent VP Krishan Kant did not contest the election and died before the election occurred.
The elections to the next Vice-President of India, were held on 5 August 2017. The announcement was made by the Election Commission of India.
