Ingrid Figur (born 1934) is a German soprano and singing teacher.

Career

Born in Berlin, Figur studied in her hometown, first German studies, then music at school to become a teacher, finally followed by her singing studies.[ citation needed ] She then began a career, both in the repertoire of the lied and the oratorio, in and outside Germany.[ citation needed ]

Since 1974, she has been teaching singing at the Berlin University of the Arts, and as a professor from 1980 to 1999. [1] Figur trained many of the singers known today at national and international level. Among her students are in particular Claudia Barainsky, Merav Barnea  [ de ], [2] Stella Doufexis, Ursula Hesse, [3] Andrea Long, Sebastian Noack, Gundula Hintz , Christine Schäfer, Mojca Erdmann, Stefanie Kunschke  [ de ] and Tim Severloh. [4]

Particularly noteworthy is her long collaboration and membership to the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, as well as the Berlin nichi-doku Liederkreis (Deutsch-japanische Sommerakademie für Gesang und Liedbegleitung).[ citation needed ] In addition, she gives numerous master classes in Germany and other countries.[ citation needed ]

Günter Kochan was a German composer. He studied with Boris Blacher and was a master student for composition with Hanns Eisler. From 1967 until his retirement in 1991, he worked as professor for musical composition at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler". He taught master classes in composition at the Academy of Music and the Academy of Arts, Berlin. He was also secretary of the Music Section of the Academy of Arts from 1972 to 1974 and vice-president of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR from 1977 to 1982. Kochan is one of eleven laureates to have been awarded the National Prize of the GDR four times. In addition, he received composition prizes in the US and Eastern Europe. He became internationally known in particular for his Symphonies as well as the cantata Die Asche von Birkenau (1965) and his Music for Orchestra No. 2 (1987). His versatile oeuvre included orchestral works, chamber music, choral works, mass songs and film music and is situated between socialist realism and avant-garde.

Ursula Günther was a German musicologist specializing in the fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries and the music of Giuseppe Verdi. She coined the term ars subtilior, to categorize the rhythmically complex music that followed ars nova.

Maria Friderike Radner was a German contralto who performed internationally in opera and in concerts. She studied at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. She was described as an "extremely talented interpreter of Wagner's music" by Stern magazine and Abendzeitung. Possessing the "rare pitch of a true alto", she frequently appeared as Erda in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Leipzig Opera, Schwertleite in Die Walküre at the Teatro Comunale di Firenze with Zubin Mehta, and in Mahler's Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection) conducted by Antonio Pappano in Rome and Milan. Her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2012 in Götterdämmerung was part of that company's documentary Wagner's Dream.
