Dark Lotus was an American hip hop group based in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Formed in 1998 as a side project of Insane Clown Posse and Twiztid, Dark Lotus was a representative of the horrorcore subgenre. From 1998 to 2017, Dark Lotus' lineup changed multiple times, with the most consistent members of the group being Violent J, Shaggy 2 Dope, Jamie Madrox, Monoxide and Blaze Ya Dead Homie.
Horrorcore, also called horror hip hop, horror rap, death hip hop, or death rap, is a subgenre of hip hop music based on horror-themed and often darkly transgressive lyrical content and imagery. Its origins derived from certain hardcore hip hop and gangsta rap artists, such as the Geto Boys, which began to incorporate supernatural, occult, and psychological horror themes into their lyrics. Unlike most hardcore hip hop and gangsta rap artists, horrorcore artists often push the violent content and imagery in their lyrics beyond the realm of realistic urban violence, to the point where the violent lyrics become gruesome, ghoulish, unsettling, inspired by slasher films or splatter films. While exaggerated violence and the supernatural are common in horrorcore, the genre also frequently presents more realistic yet still disturbing portrayals of mental illness and drug abuse. Some horrorcore artists eschew supernatural themes or exaggerated violence in favor of more subtle and dark psychological horror imagery and lyrics.
Esham Attica Smith, known mononymously as Esham, is an American rapper from Detroit, Michigan. Emerging as one of the first ever hip hop artists from Detroit, Esham released his debut studio album, Boomin' Words from Hell, in 1989 at the age of 16. Since then, he has gone on to release 21 studio albums in total and is best known as a representative of the hip hop subgenre horrorcore. In 1992, he co-founded the horrorcore group Natas. He and his brother James Smith founded and ran the Detroit hip hop label Reel Life Productions.
Mind Blowin' is the second studio album by American rapper Vanilla Ice. Released on March 22, 1994, it is the rapper's final release on SBK Records. The album did not chart, and received unfavorable reviews. It has since received some degree of cult status in the hip hop community. Songs from the album made up one third of Vanilla Ice's tours during 1992–2010. The album shifted just 42,000 copies in the United States, a massive drop in comparison to his blockbuster debut album To the Extreme. Despite this, lead single "Roll 'Em Up" received some airplay in Europe.
Bi-Polar is the fourth studio album by Vanilla Ice. Released by Ultrax Records, it is the rapper's second independent release, after Hooked. The song "Unbreakable" was remade for Dance Dance Revolution II as "Still Unbreakable", with additional verses from Vanilla Ice himself and production from Konami in-house artist Des-ROW. As of 2002, the album sold 10,645 copies in the United States.
Bizaar is the sixth studio album by the American hip hop group Insane Clown Posse. Released on October 31, 2000, by Island Records in association with Psychopathic Records, it is the first half of the Bizaar Bizzar double album, released the same day as its companion album, Bizzar. It is the 14th overall release by Insane Clown Posse.
Farid Karam Nassar, better known by his stage name Fredwreck, is a Grammy Award-winning American hip hop recording artist, DJ and record producer. He got his big break when he became a producer for Dr. Dre's newly founded record label Aftermath Entertainment, and then went on to work with Snoop Dogg's record label Dogghouse Records and became a known producer on Tha Dogg Pound-affiliated material. During this time he also was a producer for Snoop Doggs track: Riders on the storm Ft The Doors on EA's Need for Speed Underground 2. He has produced tracks from Kurupt's Tha Streetz Iz a Mutha and most of his next release, Space Boogie: Smoke Oddessey; both released during the period the rapper had left Death Row Records. He has also produced for other hip-hop and pop artists such as Eminem, Britney Spears, Ice Cube, Westside Connection, Lil' Kim, Hilary Duff, Xzibit, The Game, Nate Dogg, Everlast, Cypress Hill, 50 Cent, Mobb Deep, as well as non-US acts such as Dizzie Rascal, Tamer Hosny, Qusai Kheder and Karl Wolf.
Natas is an American hip hop group from Detroit, Michigan best known as representatives of horrorcore. Their last studio album "N of tha World" was released in 2006 through Warlock/Sony Red. In 2009, they released the mixtape "The Vatican". Currently original members Esham and Mastamind are recording a reunion album according to Mastamind's official Facebook account.
The Dayton Family is an American hip hop group from Flint, Michigan, composed of Ira "Bootleg" Dorsey, Raheen "Shoestring" Peterson and Matt "Backstabba" Hinkle. Its name derives from Dayton Street, one of Flint's most crime-ridden streets.
Hard to Swallow is the third studio album by American rapper Vanilla Ice. Released by Republic Records in 1998, the album was the first album Vanilla Ice recorded after a four-year hiatus following the 1994 release of Mind Blowin. Vanilla Ice intended the new musical direction found on the album as an attempt to move away from hip hop music and discard his former pop image. Hard to Swallow instead featured what he described as "skate rock", a fusion of heavy metal, punk rock and hip hop. The album features appearances from Amen vocalist Casey Chaos, Bloodhound Gang vocalist Jimmy Pop, and Insane Poetry front man Cyco. Vanilla Ice employed a full band for the album's sessions, which included members from notable bands such as drummer Shannon Larkin, keyboardist Scott Borland, guitarist Sonny Mayo (Snot/Sevendust), bassist Doug Ardito, and turntablist DJ Swamp (Beck/Ministry).
Release the Pressure is the debut album by rap group, Criminal Nation. It was released in 1990 for Nastymix Records and was produced by the group's producers, Eugenius and Womack. The album peaked at #73 on the Billboard charts' Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and also featured the hit single, Insane, which made it to #17 on the Hot Rap Singles. The video for another single Black Power Nation, gained some airplay.
Mr. Lunasicc is the debut album by American rapper, Lunasicc. It was released July 8, 1997, on AWOL Records and distributed by Noo Trybe Records. The album features production from DJ Daryl, Bobby G, Willie Trump Tight Charles and Pizzo. It peaked at number 92 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. One single was released, "Hard Times" featuring Probable Cauze and Ephriam Galloway, which peaked at No. 8 on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, making it each of the artists' only charting single to date.
Grim Reality is the debut album of American hip hop group Insane Poetry. Released on August 18, 1992, the album peaked at #98 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and managed to sell 35,000 copies without any support or promotion. Allmusic reviewer Alex Henderson wrote, "Sounding like a cross between a horror movie and an audio documentary on societal breakdown...a CD this graphic isn't for everyone, but those who aren't turned off by all of the violent, shocking imagery will find Grim Reality to be compelling."
Blacc Plague is the second studio album by American hip hop group Insane Poetry. At the time of release, front man Psycho changed the spelling of his name to Cyco. In 2008, after acquiring the rights, the group re-released the album with several bonus tracks on its own Grim Reality Entertainment label.

Robert Deshawn Evans, better known by his stage names Sutter Kain and DJ Bless, is an American rapper and producer from Queens, New York. His productions range from traditional East Coast hip hop to ghetto metal, a style that samples metalcore. The name Sutter Kain is based on the character Sutter Cane from the 1995 horror film In the Mouth of Madness. He is the founder and owner of Never So Deep Records.
Gerald Lee Smith, better known by his stage-name Nekro G, is an American rapper, song writer, promoter and record label owner from Riverside, California. He is currently signed to Grim Reality Entertainment and is the owner of Wikid Funk Records, founded in June 2003.
