Geomechanics is the study of the mechanical state of the Earth's crust and the processes occurring in it under the influence of natural physical factors. It involves the study of the mechanics of soil and rock.

Cambridge Scientific Abstracts was a division of Cambridge Information Group and provider of online databases, based in Bethesda, Maryland, before merging with ProQuest of Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2007. ASCE Library is an online full-text civil engineering database providing the contents of peer-reviewed journals, proceedings, e-books, and standards published by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Library offers free access to abstracts of Academic journal articles, proceedings papers, e-books, and standards as well as many e-book chapters. Access to the content is available either by subscription or pay-per-view for individual articles or chapters. E-books and standards can be purchased and downloaded in their entirety. Most references cited by journal articles and proceedings papers in the library are linked to original sources using CrossRef. Linking provides researchers with the ability to link from reference citations to the bibliographic records of other scientific and technical publishers’ articles. ASCE also offers librarians usage statistics which are compliant with the COUNTER Code of Practice for Journals and Databases. All articles are in PDF and many journal articles are also available in HTML format.

GEOBASE is a database, multidisciplinary in scope, which indexes bibliographic information and abstracts for the Geographical, Earth, and Ecological sciences, published by Engineering Information, a subsidiary of Elsevier. The broad subject coverage includes earth sciences, ecology, geomechanics, human geography, physical geography, social geography and oceanography. Development studies are also included in this database.

Academic Search is a monthly indexing service. It was first published in 1997 by EBSCO Publishing in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Its academic focus is international universities, covering social science, education, psychology, and other subjects. Deep Sea Research is a peer-reviewed academic journal of deep sea research. It was established in 1953 by Pergamon Press. In 1962, it renamed itself Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, and returned to the Deep Sea Research title in 1977. In 1978, it split into two journals Deep Sea Research Part A: Oceanographic Research Papers and Deep Sea Research Part B: Oceanographic Literature Review. In 1993, Part A split into Deep Sea Research Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers and Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, while Part B was discontinued.

His research has significantly influenced understanding of the Carbon sequestration. He has also developed new sustainable technologies for extracting resources from deep earth and natural gas from coal seams, shale, and tight geological formations.

Patrick J Fox, Ph.D., P.E., BC.GE, F.ASCE is an American civil engineer and currently the Dean of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University. His field of expertise is geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, with specializations in slope stability, retaining walls, landfills, and settlement. He obtained a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1992.

Tomasz Hueckel is an American scientist and engineer, born and educated in Poland. He is a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University, Durham, NC, USA. He is also a co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Elsevier Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment journal. Tomasz Hueckel is the son of Stanisław Hückel, a professor of maritime, harbor and foundation engineering at Gdańsk University of Technology in Poland. Hueckel is active in the field of multi-physics geomechanics, with applications to underground energy, resource and environmental geomechanics.
