International School Tripoli (IST) is a GEMS Education international school in Saraj, western Tripoli, Libya. [1] [2] It uses the British curriculum for Nursery through Year 13. [3] England

History

The school opened in September 2005, with the second phase of the school opened in September of the following year. The senior school was scheduled to open in September 2007. It became an all-through school in September 2008. [1]

Initially the students were of 20 different nationalities. [1]

The school closed temporarily in February 2011 due to the 2011 Libyan Civil War. By March it had no definite restart date. IST students moved to other GEMS schools in the United Kingdom, Dubai, Egypt, and India. [4]

The Japanese Supplemental School in Tripoli (トリポリ補習授業校 Toripori Hoshū Jugyō Kō), a weekend Japanese school, held classes at IST. [5]

Hoshū jugyō kō educate Japanese-born children who attend local day schools. They generally operate on weekends, after school, and other times not during the hours of operation of the day schools.

The Japanese Weekend School of New York is a Japanese supplementary school in the New York City metropolitan area. It has its offices in New Roc City in New Rochelle, New York. The Japanese Educational Institute of New York manages the school system, and the JWSNY is one of its two weekend school systems. The JEI also operates two Japanese day schools in the New York area.

The Japanese School of Dallas is a part-time Japanese educational program for Japanese citizens and Japanese Americans located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. A Japanese supplementary school provides supplementary Japanese education to Japanese residents living abroad. There are three major Japanese supplementary schools in Australia, all designated by MEXT as a Hoshū jugyō kō, providing Japanese education to Japanese Australians and Japanese nationals on weekends.
