Romania competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland. The nation returned to the Olympic Games after having missed the 1948 Summer Olympics. 114 competitors, 103 men and 11 women, took part in 67 events in 15 sports.
Valentin Robu is a retired Romanian rower. He competed in coxed fours and eights at four Olympics and eight world championships, and won two Olympic silver medals in 1988 and 1992 and eight world championship medals, including gold medals in 1989 and 1994. After retiring from competitions he worked as a rowing coach. His wife Doina Robu and brother-in-law Ioan Snep are also retired Olympic rowers.
Ioan Ştefan Gherghel is an Olympic butterfly swimmer from Romania. He swam for Romania at three consecutive Olympics: 2000, 2004 and 2008.
Skeet was one of the thirteen shooting events at the 1992 Summer Olympics. It was the last Olympic skeet competition open to both men and women, and the only mixed shooting competition at the Olympics ever won by a woman: Zhang Shan. The competition consisted of a qualification round of 150 targets, a semifinal of 50 targets for the top 24 competitors, and a final of 25 targets for the top six. Hitting all 200 targets of the preliminary rounds, and 23 in the final, Zhang won ahead of four male shooters at 222. With José María Colorado eliminated due to lower final score, a three-way shoot-off between Juan Giha, Bruno Rossetti and Ioan Toman determined the silver and bronze medals, going to Giha and Rossetti respectively. The event was held on 28 July at the Mollet del Vallès Shooting Range.
Ioan Gabor Șnep is a retired Romanian rower. Competing in coxed pairs and coxed fours he won silver medals at the 1988 Olympics and 1989 and 1991 world championships. After retiring from competitions he worked as a rowing coach. His wife Doina Șnep, sister-in-law Anișoara Bălan and brother-in-law Valentin Robu are also retired Olympic rowers.
Doina Liliana Bălan is a retired Romanian rower. She competed at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympics and five world championships between 1985 and 1991 and won 10 medals, including three gold medals. Her husband Ioan Șnep and sister Anișoara Bălan are also Olympic rowers.
Anișoara Dobre-Bălan is a Romanian rower. Competing in quadruple sculls she won two Olympic medals, in 1988 and 1992, and three world championship medals, in 1985, 1986 and 1991. She also won the world title in women's eight in 1989. Her sister Doina Șnep-Bălan is married to Ioan Snep; both are Olympic rowers. The sisters often competed at the same tournament but in different crews.
Ioan Iulian Vizitiu is a retired Romanian rower. Competing in eights he won silver medals at the 1992 Olympics and 1993 World Championships.
Ioan Grigoraş is a retired super-heavyweight Greco-Roman wrestler from Romania. He won a silver medal at the 1985 world and 1992 European Championships and bronze medals at the 1992 Olympics and 1990 European Championships.
Ioan Toman is a Romanian skeet shooter. He competed in the mixed skeet shooting at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, and at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, and men's skeet at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Twelve years after competing in his last Olympics, Toman qualified for his fourth Romanian team as a 49-year-old at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by winning the silver medal from the 2007 World Shotgun Championships in Nicosia, Cyprus. He placed thirty-fifth out of forty-one shooters in the two-day qualifying rounds of men's skeet, with a total hit of 108 targets.
Adrian Ioan Jigău is a Romanian male weightlifter, competing in the 62 kg category and representing Romania at international competitions. He competed at world championships, most recently at the 2006 World Weightlifting Championships.
Ioan Soter was a Romanian high jumper. He competed in the men's high jump at the 1952 Summer Olympics. He coached Romanian Olympic champion Iolanda Balaș, and married her after her retirement in 1967.
Virginia Bonci-Joan was a Romanian track and field athlete who specialised in the high jump. She competed in the women's high jump at the 1968 Summer Olympics.
Șerban Ioan is a Romanian athlete. He competed in the men's high jump at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Nicolae Hönigsberg was a Romanian footballer of Hungarian and Jewish ethnicity. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Hönigsberg, which was also known at that time under the name of Kinigli, was born when Oradea was part of Austria-Hungary and played its entire career for the local football club, Club Atletic Oradea, in 53 league matches and scored 18 goals.
Ioan Coman was a Romanian cross-country skier. He competed in the men's 18 kilometre event at the 1936 Winter Olympics.
Cristian Bățagă is a Romanian gymnast. He competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Ioan Popa is a Romanian equestrian. He competed in the team jumping event at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
