Iraklis Water Polo Club is the water polo department of G.S. Iraklis multi sport club. It has got teams both men and women. The most successful is the women's team that plays in A1 Ethniki (first division), while the men's team plays in A2 Ethniki (second division).

Women's team

Iraklis Women's Water Polo was founded in 1989. [1] Since the season 2008-09 plays continuously in A1 Ethniki. The most successful seasons were the two last (2012–13 and 2013–14), when the team finished in third place of the championship.

Men's team

Iraklis men's team plays in A2 Ethniki (second division). In the previous season (2012–13) played in A2 Ethniki, finishing in 5th place among six teams. [2] [3] Iraklis promoted to A1 Ethniki in 2007-08 season, when it won the first place in A2 Ethniki. [4] In the 2008-09 season played in A1 Ethniki for last time, finishing in the last place. [5] In recent season (2014–15), Iraklis played in Beta Ethniki and it won the rise in A2 Ethniki. [6]

He played for the Greek powerhouse Olympiacos since 2009, and in 2018 he won the 2017–18 LEN Champions League with the Greek giants, scoring 4 goals in the final game against Pro Recco in Genoa. Is a very big scorer and leader is considered one of the top players in the world and it is typical how in 2016 and 2018 he was voted as the second top player in the world. The 2014–15 A1 Ethniki is the 84th season of the Greek premier Water polo league and the 29th of A1 Ethniki. The winner of the league was Olympiacos, which beat Panathinaikos in the league's playoff's finals. It was the first final of the eternal enemies in Water Polo Championship. The clubs Panionios and Nireas Lamias were relegated to the Greek A2 League.

The 2014–15 Greek A2 Basket League was the 29th season of the Greek A2 Basket League, the second-tier level professional club basketball league in Greece. The winner of the league was Kavala The clubs that were promoted to the top-tier Greek Basket League were Kavala, Arkadikos, and Lavrio. In contrast, the teams that were relegated to the third tier Greek B Basket League were Filippos Veria, Ermis Lagkada, and Ilysiakos Ilysiakos withdrew from the league in the middle of the season, because of economic debts. All the games of Ilysiakos were given back to their opponents with scores of 20–0.

Dimitris Kravaritis is a retired Greek water polo player who played his entire career for Olympiacos. He is the current head coach of Greece Junior national water polo team, whom he led to the bronze medal at the 2015 European Games at Baku and the current assistant coach of Greece men's national water polo team as well. He is also the head of Olympiacos Water Polo Academy.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">GS Apollon Smyrnis</span>

GS Apollon Smyrnis, full name Gymnasticos Syllogos Apollon Smyrnis, literally Gymnastics Society Apollon of Smyrna is a Greek multi-sport club based in Athens. Apollon originally was founded in Smyrna in 1891 and moved to Athens in 1922 after Asia Minor Disaster. The club has got departments in football, basketball, volleyball, waterpolo and other sports. The most successful section is the football team with long presence in A Ethniki. The home stadium of the club is in Rizoupoli, a district of Athens. The club's colours are blue and white and its emblem is the ancient God Apollo.

A2 Ethniki Women's Volleyball is the 2nd-tier of championship of women's volleyball in Greece. Since current year, the championship is held in four subgroups of teams. The winners of each subgroups take part in play off games. The winners of play off team take part in final four and three best teams promote to A1 Ethniki. In current season the winners are AOF Porfyras, Iraklis Kifissias and APS Corinthos. From 2017 to 2018 season established a second level in A2 category named as Women's Pre League.

Stylianos "Stelios" Argyropoulos-Kanakakis is a Greek water polo player, who is a member of Greece men's national water polo team. He is part of Greece national team that competes at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. He started his career in Ethnikos, a club with great tradition in water polo. He was named best rookie of the Greek championship in 2015 and 2016. He then played for Greek powerhouse Olympiacos, with whom he won the 2017–18 LEN Champions League, 2 Greek Championships and 1 Greek Cup. He is currently a player of VK Jug.
