The Asian Beach Games, also known as ABG, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The Games are described as the second largest Asian multi-sport event, after the Asian Games. Its popularity is increasing due to the low cost of temporary venues, with beaches and oceans already available, while spectators and tourists are also already available in sand and sea tourist areas.

The Philippines competed in the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Danang, Vietnam from September 24 to October 5, 2016. The delegation was bannered by 72 athletes in 11 sports including 3-on-3 basketball, marathon swimming, beach athletics, beach kurash, beach rowing, beach sepak takraw, beach volleyball, beach wrestling, jiu-jitsu, muay thai, and pencak silat. Marestella Torres of long jump and Jessie Lacuna of swimming, who were part of the national delegation in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August 2016, were included in the Philippine team. Philippine Amateur Sepak Takraw Association President Karen Tanchanco-Caballero was named as the team's chef-de-mission.

The Indian Olympic Association sent a larger contingent than previous game as 208 athletes participated in 13 different games at the fifth edition of beach games. India finished at 16th position, winning 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 18 Bronze medals.

Iran at the 2018 Asian Games Sporting event delegation

Iran competed in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Iran has competed at the Asian Games since the first event in 1951 Delhi, and the best achievement was in 1974, when the country hosted the event in Tehran, by ranked second with the acquisition of 36 gold, 28 silver and 17 bronze medals. At the latest edition in Incheon, the country wrapped up its campaign with 57 medals in all - 21 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze.

The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the XVIII Asiad, is the largest sporting event in Asia governed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It was held at Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia between 18 August – 2 September 2018, with 465 events in 40 sports and disciplines featured in the Games. This resulted in 465 medal sets being distributed.

The delegation was bannered by 53 athletes in 10 sports including 3x3 basketball, beach handball, beach kurash, beach volleyball, beach woodball, beach wrestling, ju-jitsu, muay thai, pétanque, and vovinam.

Elias Aliakbari Iranian Judoka and Kurash player

Elias Aliakbari is an Iranian Kurash player and gold medalist in various international tournaments. The -81kg athlete won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia as well as two gold medals at the Asian Championships in Pune, India and VII International Kurash Tournament in Shahrisabz, Uzbekistan. IKA (International Kurash Association) named Ali Akbari as Best Kurash player of the world in 2018.
