The Iranian railway equipment industry started its activity with wagon production.

It was formed by the inauguration of train-manufacturing company Wagon Pars in 1974. The railway is being developed with Iranian-government backing and forms a part of the Iranian Economic Reform Plan.

The Iran Khodro Rail Transport Industries Company (IRICO) was established in 2003 to produce passenger cars, and the Mapna Locomotive Engineering and Manufacturing Company was established in 2006 to manufacture locomotives.

In July 2012, a Mapna Locomotive Engineering and Manufacturing Company production plant was officially inaugurated. The plant is projected to manufacture 120 locomotives  with a maximum speed of 160 kilometres per hour (99 miles per hour)  each year. [1] [2]

The first railways in Victoria were private companies, but when these companies failed or defaulted, the Victorian Railways was established to take over their operations. Most of the lines operated by the Victorian Railways were of 5 ft 3 in. However, the railways also operated up to five 2 ft 6 in narrow gauge lines between 1898 and 1962, and a 4 ft 8+12 instandard gauge line between Albury and Melbourne from 1961.

Bombardier Transportation was a Canadian-German rolling stock and rail transport manufacturer, headquartered in Berlin, Germany. It was one of the world's largest companies in the rail vehicle and equipment manufacturing and servicing industry. Bombardier Transportation had many regional offices, production and development facilities worldwide. It produced a wide range of products including passenger rail vehicles, locomotives, bogies, propulsion and controls. In February 2020, the company had 36,000 employees, and 63 manufacturing and engineering locations around the world. Formerly a division of Bombardier Inc., the company was acquired by French manufacturer Alstom on 29 January 2021.

Wagon Pars is an Iranian train and locomotive manufacturer established in 1974, in Arak. Products include locomotives, trains, metros, freight and fuel railroad cars, and equipment for passenger boarding of aircraft. It is the largest rolling stock manufacturer in the Middle East.

It is a subsidiary of UGL Limited and is based in Melbourne, with a staff of 1,200 across Australia and Asia. It operates factories in Broadmeadow, Maintrain Auburn, Spotswood and Bassendean. While it used to operate a factory in Taree, the plant was shut down and the equipment sold off.

MAPNA Locomotive Engineering and Manufacturing Company (MLC) is an Iranian manufacturing company which was established in 2006. The company's manufacturing plant was officially inaugurated in 2012 with the objective of manufacturing 150 passenger locomotives in cooperation with Siemens, to be delivered to Iran's Railways Company (RAI). A new contract for manufacture of 50 other passenger locomotives of the same type was signed between the two companies in 2016, upon full delivery of the first batch to RAI.

Demirýollary open joint-stock company is the state-owned operator of railways in Turkmenistan. The company operates on 4,980 km (3,090 mi) of railways and maintains over 345 railway stations throughout the country. The company belongs to the Ministry of Industry and Construction and is subordinate to the Railways Agency of Turkmenistan. It is headquartered in Ashgabat. While the rail system itself belongs to the railways agency, the Turkmen Railways company owns the locomotive and railcar depots, rail stations, construction and maintenance units, communications and power supply services, and two hotels in Awaza, the Kerwen and Türkmenbaşy.
