Irene Mogaka Kemunto (born 10 January 1985) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the marathon.
She began running at national level around 2005 and took second at the Kisii cross country meet that year. [1] She made her marathon debut at the Nairobi International Marathon and finished in tenth place with a time of 2:48:27. [2] She improved her time to 2:41:12 with a fifth-place finish at the 2007 edition of the Mumbai Marathon. [3] She was crowned the 5000 metres provincial champion for the Nyanza Province in June that year. [4] She ran at the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon at the end of the year and was runner-up behind Sylvia Skvortsova, taking her best time to 2:36:15. [5]
Her 2008 season was highlighted by a run of 2:38:22 for fifth place at the Toronto Marathon. [5] She focused solely on the marathon in 2009 and started with a third-place finish at the Mumbai Marathon in January. [6] She knocked six minutes of her marathon best at the Los Angeles Marathon to record 2:30:10 for fifth place. [7] Her third marathon of the year was the Singapore Marathon but her race was slow and she finished in ninth place. [5]
She ran at the Berlin Half Marathon at the start of 2010 and set a half marathon best of 1:11:38 and finished sixth overall. [8] She ran the second fastest race of her career at the Vienna City Marathon in April, clocking 2:31:28 to finish as runner-up behind Hellen Kimutai. [9] She ran for Kenya at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and was leading the race in the final stages. However, her compatriot Irene Jerotich Kosgei overtook her in the last three kilometres and Mogaka finished eleven seconds behind her to record a time of 2:34:43 and win the silver medal. [10] She competed again in India at the Mumbai Marathon in January the following year, but managed only eighth place in the race. [11]
She was the sole Kenyan entrant at the Osaka Women's Marathon and finished seventh overall. [12]

Aselefech Mergia Medessa is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes in the marathon. She was a bronze medallist in the event at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics. She is a two-time winner of the Dubai Marathon and has finished in the top three at the Paris and London Marathons. She was retrospectively confirmed as the winner of the 2010 London Marathon after the top two were disqualified. Her personal best of 2:19:31 hours is a former Ethiopian record for the distance and places her within the top ten of all-time.

Geoffrey Kiprono Mutai is a Kenyan long distance runner who specialises in road running competitions. On 18 April 2011 at the Boston Marathon, Mutai ran the fastest marathon ever at the time in a time of 2 hours 3 minutes 2 seconds, though the time was not recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations as a world record since the Boston course does not meet the criteria to be eligible for the mark.
Firehiwot Tufa Dado is a female long-distance runner from Ethiopia, who won the New York City Marathon in 2011 with a personal best time of 2:23:15 hours. She also took three consecutive victories in the Rome City Marathon.
Sharon Jemutai Cherop is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. She won a bronze medal at the age of sixteen in the 5000 metres at the World Junior Championships. She was the bronze medal winner in the marathon at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and won the Boston Marathon in 2012.
Irene Jerotich Kosgei[nb] is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. Her first victory over the distance came at the Nairobi Marathon in 2006 and she won the race again in 2010 with a course record and personal best time of 2:28:47. She became the first Kenyan woman to win the Commonwealth marathon title at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Lelisa Desisa Benti is a retired Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialises in road running competitions. Desisa gained his first international medal at the 2009 African Junior Athletics Championships, where he took the 10,000 metres gold medal.

Merima Mohammed Hasen is an Ethiopian professional long-distance runner who competes in road running events, including the marathon. Her personal best of 2:23:06 hours for the distance makes her the second fastest teenager ever over the 42.195 kilometres (26.219 mi) distance. She has won marathons in Düsseldorf, Nice and Ottawa. She represented Ethiopia at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2011.
Tariku Jufar is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes in marathon races. He has won the Beijing, Beirut and Houston Marathons and has had top-three finishes in Istanbul, Mumbai, Los Angeles, Lake Biwa and Hamburg. His personal best for the distance is 2:06:51 hours.
