The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), colloquially known as Islamia University, is a public university located in Bahawalpur, Punjab, Pakistan.

A public university is a university that is in state ownership or receives significant public funds through a national or subnational government, as opposed to a private university. History

Islamia University began as Jamia Abbasia, a religious university established in Bahawalpur in 1925, following the academic pursuits of Al-Azhar University in Egypt. In 1975, Jamia Abbasia was declared a general university and renamed as The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. [2]

Al-Azhar University University

Al-Azhar University is a university in Cairo, Egypt. Associated with Al-Azhar Mosque in Islamic Cairo, it is Egypt's oldest degree-granting university and is renowned as "Sunni Islam’s most prestigious university". In addition to higher education, Al-Azhar oversees a national network of schools with approximately two million students. As of 1996, over 4000 teaching institutes in Egypt were affiliated with the University.

Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a country in the northeast corner of Africa, whose territory in the Sinai Peninsula extends beyond the continental boundary with Asia, as traditionally defined. Egypt is bordered by the Gaza Strip and Israel to the northeast, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south, Libya to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north. Across the Gulf of Aqaba lies Jordan, across the Red Sea lies Saudi Arabia, and across the Mediterranean lie Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, although none share a land border with Egypt.

Overview

The university started at the Abbasia and Khawaja Fareed campuses with ten departments. Later, 1280 acres of land was allotted to the university on Hasilpur Road about eight kilometers away from the city centre which became the Baghdad-ul-Jadeed campus. It consists 45 departments offering 74 disciplines. In 2015, it was ranked 11th in the general (large) category of universities. [3]

Sub Campuses

Islamia university added two more campuses in 2005: One covering eastern side of Bahawalpur Division (in Bahawalnagar; known as IUB Bahawalnagar Campus) and the other one to cover western side of Bahawalpur Division (in Rahim Yar Khan; known as IUB - Rahim Yar Khan Campus or IUB - RYK Campus). [4]

Shahid Hussain Bhatti is a Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, from September 2013 to May 2018.

Javed Chaudhry is a Pakistani columnist and journalist who is hosting Kal Tak show on Express News (Pakistan) since 2008. He also writes Urdu-language columns on various topics in the Zero Point series.

The town of Bahawalnagar is the headquarter of the district and tehsil as well. Old name of Bahawalnagar was Rojanwali/Ubbha. It was named Bahawalnagar in 1904 after Bahawal Khan V, the ruler of the Bahawalpur state comprising the present districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan. It is 192 miles south of Lahore and about 120 miles east of Bahwalpur. River Sutlej passes on the northern side at a distance of about 6 miles.

Bahawalpur Division

Bahawalpur Division was an administrative division of the Punjab Province, Pakistan until the reforms of 2000 abolished the third tier of government.

Shaikh Zayed Medical College and Hospital A Public Sector Medical College in Punjab, Pakistan.

Shaikh Zayed Medical College, established in March 2003, is a public sector Medical College in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, Pakistan. It is named in honor of His Royal Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Medical College is affiliated with Shaikh Zayed Hospital which has 1700 beds (SZH) Rahim Yar Khan, which is the biggest hospital of Rahim Yar Khan District. The college is officially abbreviated as SZMC. SZMC is recognized by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council Islamabad for undergraduate & post graduate medical education. New Central Jail Bahawalpur is a jail in Bahawalpur, Pakistan located on Jail Road nearly one kilometer toward east of the Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur. In September 2006, four members of the same family, including one father, his two sons and one brother, were hanged to death in this jail. The jail has been declared as Model Jail by the Government of the Punjab, Home Department in the year 2010.
